Vintage Original Watercolor / Gouache Painting --- Marine Seascape -- Ships with Coastal View of a City in the background ---- Framed (no glass)

This charming small marine scene by V. Liebert is one of two companion pieces we purchased many years ago.  When we purchased it the frame was already in AS IS condition; the glass has broken since we have owned it, so now there is no glass (& it will be easier to ship!).  It is an original watercolor / gouache painting on paper.

In the middle ground to the right of center there is a sailing ship with a much smaller boat (with two men on it) in front of it (to the left).  There is also another sailing ship in the distance at the far right.  Along a city coast in the distance we can see many buildings.  We will leave the identification of the city up to you.

The sky is beautifully rendered with billowing clouds.  The sky includes white, beige, tans, gray and blue.  As you can see, Liebert has used more blue in the water, which is relatively calm.

The watercolor is in good / average but not in totally perfect condition.  There is some discoloration from age.  There is some foxing.  Along the top edge of the paper (outside of the seascape itself) there are three little holes in the paper from insect damage.

It is in its original wobbly AS IS frame.  As you can see from the photo of the back, the original backing board (cardboard) looks like it has never been removed (and there is an orange color "tape" around the perimeter.  You might want to just get new glass (and perhaps have a mat cut for it), or you might want to have it completely reframed to have a more dramatic and splendid presentation for this wonderful original painting.

Approximate Dimensions:

Frame 13 3/4" x 9 1/2" x 5/8"
Size of the painted scene in the center of the paper 9 1/2" x 5 5/8"

We are adding the following information excerpted from our long response to one inquiry:

" ........ You need to look at the photos on a regular computer screen since there are very good closeups that show all condition "issues". Within the painted scene and also on the margins there are some small light "spots" / areas (that have been there since I bought it for myself many years ago) that are probably from a combination of wear, insect damage, etc. The only holes through the paper from insect damage are the ones at the very top in the margin. In the cloudy sky at the left, the palest clouds are part of the painting ---- but the white curving "lines" at the upper left corner (and near the other corners) are probably from insect damage (silverfish ?). As I said in the listing, I have left it AS IS (its current condition is the condition in which I purchased it --- with the exception of the missing/broken glass) while I have owned it (including leaving the original frame in its wobbly AS IS condition). One of my specialties as an art historian is landscape painting; this one and a companion piece (a traditional landscape by the same artist) were purchased for my own collection decades ago -- at a price significantly higher than the listing price on Ebay. You do need to look at the photos (and zoom in on details) on a computer screen so that you can really see the painting! It is virtually impossible to accurately and completely describe what you will be able to see in the photos. ................."
