ABOUT THE CAESAR CRYSTAL COMPANY - Caesar Crystal is recognized as crafting some of the finest crystal in the world and its pieces can be found in museums and in the collections of discriminating collectors. The majority of its patterns are designed in-house and are the property of Caesar Crystal. The company is relatively small, but is Central Europe’s largest producer of quality cased crystal. The company owns one of the largest private archives of crystal designs in the world and its artists continue to win awards at international expositions. The company has been designing and handcrafting quality crystal since 1861.

WHAT IS CASED CRYSTAL - Cased crystal is made out of two layers of crystal melted together - a colored layer of crystal on the outside and a clear layer on the inside. The outer colored layer is then cut away to reveal the clear layer underneath. Note that color is added to molten crystal and is then blown. This is the traditional and highest quality way of making crystal colorful. Due to this two-layer technique, each piece is blown twice making it significantly more valuable than similar clear crystal. Many producers do take short cuts by simply painting their clear crystal. This process gives the pieces a tendency to scratch and fade over time and ruin their value. You can actually see the difference between painted crystal and Caesar’s cased crystal. So when looking for quality colored crystal, make sure it is true cased crystal. Cased crystal consistently appreciates in value, is always collectible and is becoming more rare as companies turn to surface painting. Please email us any questions you may have.
