eBay
Welcome to this fantastic auction for a slice of motoring history.

Always wanted to own a classic VW Beetle but never had the chance. With this listing you can get the authentic Beetle owning experience without the need for thousands of pounds, a garage, welder, compressor, angle grinder and all the other little odds and ends that go with owning this classic car.

Place this pile-o-rust strategically in the centre of your drive and be the envy of all your friends.

The rust has been carefully harvested from a 1971 1300 VW Beetle in Orange ( to match the rust) and will be packaged in the finest jiffy bagus for shipping.

Any questions at all please just let me know.

Please note that I am restoring my beetle so there will be a plentiful supply for some months to come

Due to the amount of interest in this listing already I thought it would be helpful to post the questions and answers so far incase they give you the information you need:

1) I am very interested in restoring your rusty relic. Can you confirm whether you have the V5 and is this included in the sale? Thanks.

Thanks for your message. Unfortunately the V5 will have to stay with the car I am restoring and the auction is only for the rust that I am finding when stripping it down ( and believe me there is going to be a plentiful supply!) Just didnt want it going to waste when other less fortunate people cannot afford a beetle, but this will allow them the full Beetle owning experience.

2)Does this come with a certificate of authenticity? How do I know that it isn't an inferior British Leyland type rust?

No certificate I am afraid but I can provide a crimestoppers witness-esque video of the rust being removed with someone in an anorak pointing. I can also get my mate dodgy Dave to authenticate the video by signing the top of the DVD ( I say sign, he unfortunately lost his arms in a tragic mole wrestling accident so will, instead, just lick the DVD for you)

3) Hi, very interested in this - would it work with a 2009 VW Golf to give it a 'vintage feel'? Thanks

Yes it would indeed. All you would need to do is spread this liberally underneath the carpet for that "extra crunchy" vintage feel.
Alternatively you could also mix is with some Dove moisturiser to create a fantastic exfoliator and self tan combo. This colour is, I believe, popular with people in Essex
Thanks for your message

4) Do you have a 'Buy it now' price or are you open to offers.

How genuine VW is it, does it have any identification or authorised provenence?

There is no buy it now as I would like to let the auction run and give everyone a chance of owning this piece of motoring history. There can be video evidence of the rust being removed from the car and I am yet to hear from VW about my request for a certificate of auth from them. I can however get a certificate signed for by not the guy next door but the guy nextdoor to him if that would provide piece on mind for you

5)Is this right hand drive and does it need much work to pass the next mot? Are there any spares that come with it, for example a large chunk of filler or even some used gaffa tape?

Hi There. The rust is right hand drive and actually comes with a valid current MOT ( from dodgy daves motors in dodge town). If it goes for the right price I will throw in some filler, some green putty looking stuff that I have yet to identify and a petrol receipt from 1984.

Don't forget rust is lighter than carbon fiber!

On 22-Oct-13 at 09:27:17 BST, seller added the following information:

6)Do you have additional photos of the sale item as it's very hard to see what's included in the sale and what's not.

Hi There. I dont have any other pictures I am afraid but can assure you that it will be 100% rust and no additives or extra ingredients such as filler, carpet adhesive, small burrowing creatures etc . There may even be remenents of one of "The" four bolts in the rust as well!

7)
Would you be interested in a part exchange for some Splitscreen rust?

Oh yes I would indeed! I have always wanted some splitscreen rust of my own. I can put it on the drive next to my beetle rust

8)hi there , iam a genuine timewaster, and will mess you around, have you a buy it now price, so later when i,m drunk i can get my 2year son to push the button, and you can then never hear from me again!! how does that sound??

Hi there :) Ah excellent a genuine timewaster. I am fed up of dealing with these wishy-washy timewasters who bid on something and then actually come and collect it....I mean really! Tell you what how about you arrange a time with me to come and view the rust. I will make sure I am in, make no plans for the rest of the day and then you can not turn up and not have your phone turned on. :) Let me know if this is ok for you

9)can you set my mind at rest before bidding, is it hpi clear? and free from any accident damage? i,m after accident free rust only!

Yes the rust is definately HPI clear. The rust is also accident free and if you do a quick history check on "checkmyrust" this will set your mind at ease :)

10) You don't mention how large this pile is, how much does it weigh and would it fit into a small hatchback ok regarding collection?

Hello. The Pile-o-rust will fit into a small hatchback no problem and I will provide a sturdy carrying recepetical for its transportation. I would recommend bringing a friend with you though. Not to help carry it as it is very light ( rust being lighter than carbon fibre) but more for company really.

11) I am lucky enough to own an half decent condition T4, if I was to buy your pile-o-rust and use it on my van, would this speed up the corrosion of my van to allow me to create that 'rat look' they all seem to be going in for, indeed, would it eventually disintegrate enough that I may be able to sell my own T4 rust? Sorry to want to know so much, I'm new to all this malarkey.

Hi There. Wow you are the lucky thing. Pile-o-rust would be perfect for speeding up the corrosion on your van to create an authentic rat look ( why spent thousands making it look shiny when you can spend more thousands ratting it!). And the power of this rust means that you will indeed eventually end up with a pile of rust all of your own and I can imagine T4 rust holds its value much better than late beetle rust so could be the perfect pension scheme- much better than the dodgy goings on at banks at the moment anyway!

On 22-Oct-13 at 21:09:15 BST, seller added the following information:

12) Hi, would you trade or px for a small pile of rust and some sliding door grease residue from a late Bay?

Sliding door grease plus rust!! Ohhhh you most definitely have my attention!!! For that I might even add in remnants of one of the mystical 4 bolts!! ( you can fit a Porsche engine in dont you know )

On 22-Oct-13 at 21:35:53 BST, seller added the following information:

Will consider a swap for a new RH side drivers heater channel- 69-onwards version ;-)

On 23-Oct-13 at 09:50:44 BST, seller added the following information:

13) Hi is the pile of rust genuine German as I am an avid restorer I do not want anything in it that could be Brazilian, does not go down well when doing concourse at shows,

Hiya. I can assure you this is genuine German rust. I can understand your concern though as I am imagining it can be rather awkward to have a brazillian when going down at a concourse at a show, and nobody would want to see that.

On 23-Oct-13 at 21:47:13 BST, seller added the following information:

14)I've got some chrome plate that's flaked off a cheap Chinese motorcycle, it would go well with the rust to give it that extra "Bling" so admired by people from a certain County to the North East of London. Would you swap some of my "Flaky Chrome" for some of your rust and we can both make a fortune?
John

My god what a cunning plan!! Infact I am so sure that this will make us both multimillionaires that I have already ordered by super yacht and mansion! No to employ a man servant.............

We could market it as a "bling and buy" sale, that way we could make enough to each have private jets to fly us to the yachts.

GENIUS!!! The jets could be rat look ones with chrome trim to show how we became such awesome people. Although I wouldn't like the idea of running it low or dropping it a few splines.....could be dangerous what with mountains etc and then we would just be another celebrity tragic death statistic

15) I had to get in touch as I feel you have been giving out false info. the rust has to be metric and not Imperial being that it is Classic VW pile o rust

Hi There. Thank you very much for pointing our my completely obvious and stupid mistake. I must have been drunk or on drugs or very heavily medicated for the good of the community when I wrote that reply. As a girl I am going to use the " oh but I just like pink and fluffy things I know nothing abou these car type things...whats a steering wheel" line and try and hide the fact that I can in fact weld with the best of them and I am happiest with a powertool in my hand ( that is not a euphemism)

On 24-Oct-13 at 20:55:31 BST, seller added the following information:

16) Hi, Any chance I can view item before I bid, preferably in the dark with the light on my mobile phone.
cheers Steve

Viewings of this type are not only recommended but encouraged. If you would like I can place the rust in a really precarious position on a main road meaning you have to take your life into your own hands to have a look at it. The added adrenalin will help you miss any of the obvious signs of wear as well as an added bonus.

17) Are you sure its beetle? Is it tax free rust too? And is it MOT exempt too?
I am only asking as it look like a bit of fine rust from a barndoor 23 window samba, if so its worth 100 times more..

The rust is indeed tax free but not MOT free I am afraid. I have a feeling that the reason it resembles rust from a Samba is that, secretly, thats what the bug has always wanted to be. I have just never had the heart to tell it otherwise!

And an update to question 13)
I quite agree, before I go to shows I polish the body work and make sure that there is no unwanted fluff on the seats and everything is well lubricated with the correct stuff, so do you have a BIN price??
Lubrication is the key when it comes to going down at concourse. No more an awkward moment exists than having your pipes inspected and finding that the have not been sufficiently lubricated or prepared for the manual handling.

On 27-Oct-13 at 19:36:48 GMT, seller added the following information:

18)I have just bought a brand new yellow plastic dustpan and brush combo for which I used to sweep my last beetle in to, and have garaged it for the winter months but I was not happy with the shade of rust I had to complement the dustpan .......UNTIL NOW WOW!! the shading and orangey brown of your rust is far superior and would finish off my project.

Thank you for your message. Yes I believe this rust has a particularly nice shade of orange that would compliment any garage dustpan and brush but I think a yellow one in particular. Congratulations on your new dustpan purchase!

19)Hi, my husband has just bought a pile-o-rust bug today (I see you have a niche market) his came with fluffy dice!!! Do you have any advice for him on how to nurture it, many thanks

Wow fluffy dice! Always a nice addition to a rust-o-bug :) I would suggest heading out to have a "quick tinkle " on the car. I did that on mine and after removing only a few pieces of carpet found this incredible mine of orange fairy dust. I think this had been nutured by the original owner by incorrectly installing a heater channel with no weather proofing and then leaving it to marinade in a bath of "Winter 2012" ain which really helped it develop. It was then neatly hidden using poly filler and random green putty type stuff ( i think that is the technical term)

20)
Is this rust certified organic? I am mostly interested in organic rust, preferably caused by mineral water or Alpaca tears. I may compromise on the organic, but mineral water and Alpaca tears are non-negotiable

This rust has been cultivated from an organic source ( the beetle is orange so, you know that is like a fruit) and as she resides on very close to the M11/A406 junction the rain has included many of the natural car minerals such as tar, CO2 and tyre dust. Perrier for the classic car I believe. I cannot find any receipts for alpaca tears in the history but since I have owned it, I have been using a unicorn/sasquach tears solution to cultivate the rust

21)Hi do you know the part number of this item? is it used or NOS? and also what region of the uk did the rust develop? I don't want anything too norther you see..

Hiya. This rust has been developing in the Redbridge/Woodford area of London for sometime now and as far as I am aware has not been north of the watcford gap. I would tell you the part number but unfortunately that is rusted off. It is ONS ( Old new stock)

On 27-Oct-13 at 21:00:26 GMT, seller added the following information:

22)Hi I wonder if u can help ?
I'm running a restored 1969 bug which is. Sadly missing some rust from the spare wheel well would this be compatable
Thanks

Hiya. Yes I believe that is an all too common problem, rust missing from the spare wheel. This rust would be perfect for fitting your car as it also comes from a late beetle so same body type. Will really give that "wheres my welder" authentic=ness to the beetle as well that everyone craves

23)now i have a beetle with a small hole that i tink this will fit but is there clean metal on this to weld it in i hope so as i so do want to fill the hole before the winter sets in and i cannot belive i found this add in time

Hi there. It depends by what you mean clean metal. I can put it through the washing machine before dispatching it if that would help at all? If ou are hoping to attach this rust to more rust then the rust to rust contacts would be up to the job :)

24)I feel the description for this item is incorrect. This appears to be genuine VW 'patina' as it is known by some. Vw enthusiasts tend to use the 'patina' label on all 1/2 done restos. As such this item could be classed as an unfinished project. hope this helps.

Ah thank you very much for that :) If I do list again then I will make sure it is marked as an unfinished project :)
