CUTE DOG IN BLUE BY P&B TEXTILES-PERFECT FOR TAKE 5 III

This listing is for 1 of 5, 45 inch wide, 100% cotton fabrics from P&B Textiles featuring the Cute Dog line.  It comes in pink and blue and would make a great Take 5 quilt, (more about that later). This fabric features the actual cute dog.

Now on to the Take 5

Make a cup of tea and get comfortable, I am about to get long winded.

If you have been to Pookie's Fabrics any time in the last 18 months, you might have read some thing about my love affair with the Take 5 quilt. If you haven't (or even if you have), you're going to hear about it now, (or again).

First I have to say, I am WAS NOT a quilter and had NO intentions of ever becoming one. I have been sewing since I was 5 , being the granddaugther of a French Canadian "Lady" who insisted that if you could not knit, crochet, sew, embroider and quilt by the time you were 6, by God, you were useless and nobody decent would have you".  I love to sew, I have 4 sewing machines, my own rather large sewing room and I opened a fabric store to justify my ever growing "stash", but I never seriously took up quilting.

I also love quilts and would love to have a home decorated with them but I learned a long time ago that I do not have the patience to be a quilter, and besides, quilters are strange people, obsessed with quilting and fabric and stuff like that. I want it down, dirty and done, according to my daughter, and she's right, so that precludes quilting.  Enter Kathy Brown and the Take 5 quilt.

About 2 years ago we went to an open house at one of our suppliers and met Kathy Brown of the Teacher's Pet and creator of the Take 5.  She says "take 5 minutes, pick 5 fabrics and in 5 hours you have a quilt top.  Well, she LIED!!!  No one can pick out 5 (coordinating) fabrics in 5 hours.  But, one evening the "boss" went to work at 6:30, I put the baby to bed at 7, and at 11:38 I had finished my first quilt top, and this was before we bought the Take 5 die so I had to cut all my pieces.

From that point on I was HOOKED!  Within a month I had made at least dozen tops, and then one of my customers smacked me in the face with cold, hard reality. "OK, they're very nice", she said sweetly, "but now you've got to finish them".  HUH??? Oh, you mean as in quilt them - OOOPS.  There ended my quilting career. I  sent my first one out to a long armer and Spud loves to play on it; the rest are used as decorations for the shop and I am back to "real" sewing.

                         UPDATE

That was written almost a year ago in which time I have become a full fledged quilter, strange (I was probably that already) and obsessed with quilting.  I saw a truck with a neat logo and wondered what kind of quilt I could make with it - HOOKED!!!  We have taken lessons from a longarmer and have finished 4 of my UFO's, and now, my sweet husband, Jimmy The Geek things a longarm might be a good way to supplement his retirement (lack of) income.

Even though I have made several different quilts, I still feel that the Take 5 is one of the best quilt patterns out there. It is great for beginners, for someone who wants it "down, dirty, and done", or teachers who want to give a class a real sense of accomplishment in a minimal amount of time. The quilt has only 1 block, there are are no intersecting seams in the block and the layout can be as random or as planned as you want. And of course we sell the Take 5 pattern at Pookie's Fabrics,  and these 5 fabrics would make a great Take 5 quilt.

This fine fabric is sold by the yard and is cut from the bolt as it is ordered.

A few words about shipping: A few of you have mentioned that the post office has been charging you extra for so called "bulging" packages, (19.00, 22.00 and 26.00) in the recent weeks. I called the USPS customer service and they said that is just plain WRONG!!  If something fits into a flat rate priority box or envelope and can close, it goes for the flat rate!  If a post office tries to charge you to receive your package you should call USPS customer service at 1-800-275-8777 and report it and they will file a complaint against any post office that does it.  Be sure to get a case complaint number and keep it handy until your case is resolved.

A few more words about shipping: if you are purchasing 1-2 yards, please wait and let us invoice you.  It costs between 3.25 and 3.95 to ship these amounts but eBay will cahrge you our default shipping, 4.95.  Also keep in mind that I can fit 10 yards into a priority envelope for 4.95 anywhere in the country.  Overseas buyers please note, it costs about 10.50 to ship 2 yards but I can ship 10 yards in a priority envelope for 13.95 anywhere.

Please accept our sincere thanx in advance. In an effort not to add to anyone's landfill, we have eliminated thank you notes in our shipments. It is only a small thing but, "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".
