You are bidding on a beautiful and scarce 13" Folio Victorian-style Bible in the very rare and highly prized Douay and Rheims Version.  The "Holy Bible translated from The Latin Vulgate: Diligently compared with the Hebrew, Greek, etc..." Published by D&J Sadlier, c1850.  Fully adorned gilt designed cross patterned Full-Leather covers with plain leather spine with raised bands, gilt deco, titling, and name Mary Smith in gilt at foot of spine.  IN AMAZING CONDITION!!!This Bible shows only very light wear and appears barely read both inside and out. Beautiful gilt  and thick tooled and designed leather decorative covers. Loaded with a ton of breathtaking tissue guarded B&W plates.  Both the front and back covers are again very lightly worn, both however are detached, spine with minor rubbing, corners are rubbed and exposed.

Within, the pages are in great shape as well, lots of care in the use of this Bible; all pages are present, including unmarked family pages. There is some light foxing,  but for the most part  they are very clean...and all UNMARKED! There is one flaw, being that the frntis, opposite the color engraved title page, is torn in half. There is also a Homeless Children of St Joseph's, NYC 1883 Newspaper within. Many Irish Catholics of NYC were socially and religiously involved in the large mass of homelessness that rampaged the City in the late 1800s, as with the case of the owner of the Bible, we are sure.

This is a very large, heavy collectible family bible with intricate and beautiful designing and is super desirable. These are often quite worn, but this copy is exceptional, with the covers in great shape, unmarked pages, and only minimal wear...THIS IS A GEM...Similar bibles in the same condition have been sold for easily over 500.00! Good luck:) Measures 13.5" x 11" x 3.75".
