This is a very rare opportunity to purchase original artwork showing the first appearance of one of Fleetway’s main comic characters.

Cheeky first appeared in Krazy No.1 (1976) and such was the character’s popularity with readers that not only was he quickly established as the star of the comic but was also given his very own comic within a year – Cheeky Weekly.

Starting off as a member of the Krazy Gang – an anarchic group of kids living in Krazy Town, the gang’s adversary, Pongo Snodgrass, also makes his first appearance on this very page.

While Krazy itself folded into Whizzer & Chips in 1978, Cheeky Weekly had greater longevity before folding into Whoopee in 1980.  Cheeky is part of a rich heritage of comic characters from those days including Buster, Sweeney Todd and Frankie Stein.

With little of the artwork of that day surviving, it’s fair to say that this is an extremely rare piece of art and very special.  It is in good condition with the add-ons still stuck on.  An adjustment to the final published art explains the tape visible on the rear.  The artist was Ian Knox whose name appears on the bottom right of the page.  The rear of the art bears his name and address (the address has been purposely masked to maintain privacy but the winner will see it clearly written).  This is his original art produced for IPC and not a copy.
