1864 $.03 FRACTIONAL NOTE
GEORGE WASHINGTON
We have here a perfect copy of the 1864 U.S. FRACTIONAL 3 CENT NOTE. It is the lowest/smallest denomination every printed by the USA, a bonus for any small note collection. It was the amongst the short term issue of extra small size notes issued from 1862-1876. In the years of the US Civil War starting in 1862 there was a critical shortage of coins. It became such a problem that for 14 years the government issued small size notes called FRACTIONAL CURRENCY.
Book value for this copy/replica is less than $25.00 for uncirculated, but retailers and Shop at Home TV often charge crazy prices. Book value for the real note is $550.00. (This one will be sold for less). This copy is sharp with no tears, writing, ink, holes, etc. It has exceptionally good color, (the seal color is striking!) It is perfectly clean, crisp. It has razor sharp edges and corners. It is free of wear from any use and shows no sign of ever being circulated. This color copy looks brand new! To comply with Ebay rules and Federal law, the note has the word copy, descreetly, but plainly on the reverse.
I'd rate it a solid CRISP GEM UNCIRCULATED, but you be the final judge in the photos above which you can enlarge.
