This car is the culmination of 8 years of research including close examination and measurements of the original screen used cars, in depth interviews with the original builders and sourcing of parts from the original locations using the same parts as were used on the original cars. For the first time ever, this replica featured the help of "Kevin Pike" who was the special effects supervisor for the 1985 film "Back To The Future" and he and his team built the original cars for the film. Kevin has helped with the research and sourcing of parts from original locations as well as supervised the building of the car to meet his satisfaction and requirements. ![]() Bob (left) is standing with Kevin Pike (right) who was the original special effects supervisor who's shop "Filmtrix" built the original Time Machines for the film back in 1985. (Click here to see his IMDB listing) Bob sought out the advice and direction of Mr. Pike to build this car. This included staying with Kevin at his home in Sherman Oaks, California and visiting the locations where his team bought the original parts used when they built the 3 cars for the film in 1985. Amazingly many of the parts were still available. The car being offered is a 1981 Delorean with a gray leather interior and a 5 speed manual transmission. It features the stock aluminum V6 fuel injected engine with some slight additional power modifications to increase electrical output and power. It has new tires and is in great running, driving condition. Although it is an amazing prop it is still a functional sports car and could be driven daily if desired. ![]() The conversion features all of the iconic props as remembered from the film, including a working "Flux Capacitor" made from the same rare internal glass relays as originally found in early WWII Military radios. The "Time Circuits" on the center console operate just like they did in the movie, allowing you to input any time and date you wish. The "Present Time" keeps real time with an internal quartz clock. When the "Time Drive Switch" is turned on, all of the internal props come to life with all of the sound effects as heard in the film. The "Plutonium Gauges" light up and the needles jump to position. The overhead console ignites with over 40 lighted buttons and switches and can be flipped on and off. The digital speedometer on the dash can be set to "88" for display, or a programmed sequence can run the speedometer from 0 to 88 and back down to 0 while also setting off other props in the car. The same speedometer also acts as a real speedometer for the car using a GPS system. ![]() The exterior props include the "Flux Bands" that wrap around the front bumper, top, sides and bottom of the car. They connect to "Flux Boxes" that were originally molded from original screen used parts. The metal mesh bands light up with genuine neon tubing just as it did in the film. (Special effects added to the scenes such as sparks, electricity and lightning made them appear blue in the movie). The rear deck features custom aluminum vents that are 100% screen accurate as measured from the screen used hero car. The vents are topped with the famous "Mr.Fusion Home Energy Reactor" that is made from molds of the original parts. There are also many extra details including high pressure hoses and braided lines, military electrical connections and vintage aircraft parts that make this car look like something ready to travel through space and time!!! The aluminum rear vents also feature a huge 1800 watt concert style fog machine that blasts thick white fog (safe water vapor fog) and can be controlled from inside the car manually or by automatic timer. The entire car is electrically powered by 4 gel cell batteries that total 4000 amps of power including a 2000 watt power inverter and built in 10 amp DC charger so the car can be plugged in for permanent display. The engine has been equipped with a custom 140 AMP alternator to compensate for the additional power consumption. Recently a similar car was offered for sale at the "Profiles In History" auction and featured on SYFY Network's show "Hollywood Treasures" and fetched $95,000. My car is far superior and features all working Time Circuits and props, exterior neon tubes and the help of the original builders from the film. This car is expected to sell in excess of $100,000 at auction and will be sold exclusively at GALLERY 63 in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday April 10th and featured on the Discovery Channel hit show, "AUCTION KINGS". (Check cable listings for show times). For more information visit http://www.gallery63.net/ or call 404.252.2555 for detailed on how to attend and bid. This is made of solid polyurethane resin and bolted through the fender using large 1/4" bolts. What makes this prop interesting is that it was created by making a mold of the original screen used part that came from the car used in the 3rd movie. It is an exact replica of the original screen used part and has the same oil finished cap screws, aluminum plates and 100 Amp plugs. ![]() This replica of the "Flux Capacitor" is one of the finest you will ever see. It uses the same type of fiberglass electrical enclosure painted the original color by using a paint chip acquired from the original screen used prop as a color match. The relays inside are vintage 1940's vacuum tube relays used in WWII military radios. The Cannon electrical elbow connectors are authenticated original. There are $1500 worth of parts inside this particular prop alone. ![]() Many of the parts on the Time Machine are sourced from military aircraft. The center section or "Present Time" keeps real time. When they are switched on they make the same sound effect as heard in the film. Input is easy, month, day, year, hour, minute and AM/PM and ENTER. You can then set off a "Time Event" by pressing a secret button, the speedometer will ramp up to "88" and the times and dates will change on the Time Circuits, the needles on the "Plutonium Gauges" will drop and the "Spectrum Analyzer" will go full on.. When the speedo drops back to "0" and the system is switched off and back on again, the "Plutonium Gauges" will set of the "EMPTY" alarm with the same sound effect from the film. A reset is switched and the system returns to normal and is ready to repeat. ![]() 2000 Watt inverter, 12,000 volt transformer, 1800 Watt fog machine, 2 of the 4 total batteries and charging system. ![]() ![]() Hidden underneath the Time Circuits in the center console is high powered Sony stereo system. Only genuine neon can give the amount of cast light on the car and the ground as seen in the film. Substitutions using LED, EL wire or rope light can not mimick the original look of the genuine neon. ![]() This still from the behind the scenes video shows the car in Kevin Pike's shop in 1985 before filming. Notice the neon is a white cold cathode phosphorescent. This color temperature appears blue on camera when shot with certain filters. Industrial Light and Magic added color and special effects to the car in editing but as you can see the original car had this white neon tubing, not blue as many other replica builders have previously thought. This is the only replica in history to address details such as these. ![]() Robert "Videobob" Moseley got his nickname as a video producer making musinc videos, TV shows and commercials. How
much is a Delorean Time Machine worth?
Videobob is not the first person to build a Time Machine replica. Long before he built six of these replicas, many others have attempted this feat in the last 25 years since the film was released in 1985. The early versions of the replicas were not "screen accurate" at all, they were Deloreans with basic parts found at hardware and electronic stores with a lot of creative freedom and without the luxury of the internet, DVD, home printing and other techonology. However in the last 10 years because of the availability of the internet as a research and meeting tool there have been great strides made in these replicas. Here are some examples of a few cars by great builders that have sold recently at auction. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In December 2009, this replica sold on eBay to Seth McFarlane (creator of "Family Guy") for $89,000 Upon buying it he then put another $20,000 in additons and repairs to the car.
