As noted, one of these is on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for the innovative industrial design of the keyboard.

There is some substantial, even heavy wear on the casing including some deep scratches and gouges. The eject button on the upper pcmcia slot is missing, and the back of the left hinge cover is missing. The left mouse button needs a strong push to work, as does the space bar. The memory slot cover is taped on. But this is a 15 year old machine and these issues are merely superficial. It boots right into Windows 95. There is a new CMOS battery so it keeps good time, and does not give an error message on startup. Most of the 701Cs here on eBay have dead CMOS batteries. The keyboard and screen are in generally good shape; there are no bad pixels and the screen is bright and sharp. The butterfly mechanism works smoothly on opening and closing. The hard drive is an upgrade and is free of bad sectors. The sound works fine. It has Windows 95, Office 97, Adobe Reader 5.0, and other period software. It can surf the internet although don’t expect flash and java support. It runs DOS games great.

The warranty on this is that it will turn on when you get it. Given the age, you cannot really expect more. The battery holds some charge but the laptop gets very hot while charging the battery so I do not use it.

I will not ship this to anywhere other than the U.S. and Canada, Europe and Australia and if you live outside the U.S. send me an eBay question before you bid so we can confirm shipping details. I will not play games with customs.
