Here's a unique triangular shaped bitters bottle that we dug from an 1890s trash pit....It has no embossing, but had partial label for some kind of bitters when we dug the bottle, but unfortunately it was just too brittle and fragile to preserve..... Hand blown.....cork top collar....3 sided....tapered(larger at base and tapering up to smaller shoulder)....9"tall....EXCELLENT NEAR MINT CONDITION with no chips or damage. A nice clean bottle. We could plainly make out the word BITTERS on the label, and some of what it claimed to cure, but could make out where it was from. After the bottle had been exposed to the air for awhile, the partial label just peeled away and disintegrated. I have hundreds of fresh bottles to list in my store, so stay tuned.... Glass that contains manganese, when exposed to ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, causes the glass to turn amethyst. Some of my amethyst bottles and glass are purpled from years of exposure to natural sunlight. Others have been purpled with the use of strong UV lights in a box…and some have been purpled by a process called “irradiation”, which is a safe and permanent process which does the same thing as many years of exposure to natural sunlight, except much faster. To those "purists" who falsely believe that glass cannot turn this deep amethyst color naturally, I could take you to places where bottles and glass have turned this same shade of purple from being in the sunlight for many years.
