An antique Victorian or Edwardian baby gown or day dress, could be used as a Christening robe.
Made in white cotton, and decorated with Swiss embroidery inserts to the circular neckline/top of bodice, with pale yellow and white thread woven through. The edge of the neck is trimmed with Valenciennes lace, as are the cuffs. There are pintuck gathers to the lower half of the bodice. The back is open, and the neck and waist are both drawstring gathered with cotton ties. The bottom hem is decorated with pintucks and a broderie anglaise flounce.
The measurements when laid flat are: armpit to armpit 10.5", armpit to cuff 5.5", shoulder to bottom hem 30.5".
There are a couple of rust spots on the front lower half of the skirt, and a rust spot on the back of the skirt (see last two pictures), otherwise all looks intact and clean.
I sell antique and vintage linens, lace and textiles. These items are often handmade and unique, and may have flaws and signs of use commensurate with their age, which for many collectors is part of their charm. Many linens have a laundry mark - dating to a time when linens were sent out of the home for laundering. Any obvious flaws are noted as accurately as I can in the description, but antique linens are rarely as pristine as new, so if condition is important to you, please ask any questions before bidding.
