This is the famous, even iconic Thinkpad 701C with the “butterfly” folding/expanding keyboard. If you have never seen one of these in action, here is a link to a youtube video:

As noted, one of these is on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for the innovative industrial design of the keyboard.

The unit is in decent cosmetic condition; a solid "B-" I would say. The bottom has just a few scratches. It boots into Windows 95. The CMOS battery is dead so it does not keep good time, and does give error messages on startup for date, time and memory, but you can bypass them by hitting escape to continue booting.  It is solid. The keyboard is in pretty good shape and works fine...minor wear on a couple keys. The screen is crisp bright and clear with no bad pixels. The butterfly mechanism works smoothly on opening and closing. The hard drive is free of bad sectors. The sound works fine. It has Windows 95, office software, Adobe Reader 5.0, and other period programs. It has very basic internet functions, although don’t expect flash and java support. It runs DOS games great and I have installed a classic DOS shooter for you with a shortcut on the desktop. There is no battery provided. I have a few very dead leaky ones around if you are willing to pay a few bucks extra to ship one. Message me if you want one. If the price goes high enough I will include one at my discretion. I also have additional accessories like the docking bar, external floppy, printer cable, etc. so let me know if you want one of those items and I will see what we can do.

The warranty on this is that it will turn on when you get it. Given the age, you cannot really expect more.

I will not ship this to anywhere other than the U.S. and Canada, Western Europe and Australia and if you live outside the U.S. send me an eBay question before you bid so we can confirm shipping details. I will not play games with customs.
