A single genuine ancient Near Eastern Bronze Age arrow from the Axel Guttmann Collection, dating to approximately 1200 - 800 BC.

The sale price is for ONE arrow, similar to the ones photographed.

The beautiful, robust arrow survives with complete tang and is of elegant quadrilateral form, with shallow mid-rib. The patina is exquisite - a mixture of bright green (malachite) and bright blue (azurite).

Arrows such as this were used by the Early Cultures of Babylonia, Assyria and Anatolia. The Near East was at that time one of the most advanced regions on the planet and has been referred to as the "Cradle of Civilization". This arrow would have been used by some long-forgotten soldier, perhaps belonging to one of the mighty armies of Biblical King Nebuchadnezzar, approximately three Millennia ago.

A fantastic, tactile example of Bronze Age weaponry and a superb and interesting display piece.

Ex. Axel Guttmann Collection.

Guttmann was without doubt the most famous collector of ancient militaria in the modern era, many of his pieces being published in several volumes by authors Hermann Born & Ursula Seidl. His collection was so rich that a Museum was created in Berlin to house his many objects. These arrows are some of the finest from the Guttmann collection, and were exhibited in his Museum in Berlin, Germany in the 1990's. An image of the original bowl containing all of the Guttman arrows, clearly showing them to be of this type, will be provided to the winning bidder upon request. Beware many arrows that are falsely attributed to the Guttmann collection!
