What is the Anti-Bump / zero lift mechanism?

This system ensures that even if a key is cut low enough to bump the number 10 pin it will be too low to make contact with the zero pin. Cutting a key high enough to make contact with the zero pin will result, every time, in overlift of the number 10 pin. It is a truly formidable barrier to lock bumping.

The UAP+ cylinder also features anti-pick pins, anti-drill cuts and double anti-plug pull cuts to further reinforce the lock’s security.

Why is Anti-Bump so important?

The term Lock Bumping describes the process in which an adapted key is inserted into common pin-based locks and through application of torque and strikes to the key the door can be opened in seconds.

Such attacks are increasing across the UK and leave little or no visible signs of damage, which can hamper any subsequent insurance claim.

Although sourced from an American news channel, the Lock Bumping video on the right describes a threat that is equally relevant to us in the UK. So much so that a number of authorities recommend the fitting of Anti-Bump locks to all external doors.

Measuring guide - what size do you need?

It is vital that you order the correct size cylinder for your door. To determine which size cylinder you require you must either remove the cylinder or measure in the door.

Removing existing cylinder

  1. Put your key in the lock and open the door.
  2. Remove the screw which is beneath the latch.
  3. Turn the key while apply slight pressure to the opposite end of the cylinder. As you do so the cam will line up with the rest of the lock and you will be able to slide the cylinder out towards yourself. The key usually needs to be turned approximately 25º clockwise or anti-clockwise.

You can now measure the original cylinder.

How to measure your cylinder size

Measuring the existing cylinder / barrel out of the door

On the side of the cylinder, under the cam, you will see a Fixing Hole. The size you require is determined by the distance from each edge of the cylinder to the centre of the fixing hole.

  1. Measure from the end of the cylinder to the centre of the Fixing Hole, to give the first measurement (a)
  2. Measure from the centre of the Fixing Hole to the other end of the cylinder, to give the second measurement (b)

If you measured 35mm and 45mm, or 45mm and 35mm, then the size you should choose is 35/45.

How to measure your cylinder size

Measuring the existing cylinder / barrel in the door

Measure from the centre of the retaining screw hole to the edge of the handle backplate on the inside (a) and round to the next 5mm increment. i.e. 38mm = 40mm. This will ensure the cylinder protrudes from the handle backplate.

Repeat on the outside to give measurement (b).

One final check is to measure the overall length and see if the two measurements match up.

Aim to get the barrel as flush as possible to the door handle, unless buying an anti-snap barrel.

NOTE: The retaining screw fixing hole is above the dashed line in the diagram i.e. above the bottom of the cylinder.

If ordering a new door handle make sure you allow for any difference in the backplate thickness.
