Interesting mosaic on board using seeds by well-known New York artist and designer Karl Mann (b. 1930). Largely self-taught, Mann moved from Chicago to New York in the late 1940s where he held his first solo exhibition in 1955 (featuring seed mosaics). The exhibition was reviewed in the New Yorker by Brendan Gill (see http://karlmann.net/publications/1955BrendanGill.pdf ). Mann continued exhibiting in New York galleries, initially specializing in seed mosaics in the 1950s and early 1960s before experimenting with collages and found-object sculptures and collages. He founded the famous Karl Mann Associates design firm in the late 1950s, selling it in 1984. In 2002, Mann was given a 50-Year retrospective at the Viewing Room in New York (see http://www.nytimes.com/2002/08/09/arts/art-in-review-karl-mann-retrospective-50-years.html for a New York Times review of the exhibition.). Mann's work is in the collections of the University of Michigan Museum of Art, New York University, Museum of Modern Art, IBM, ABC Television, American Express, and many other.

The mosaic is signed verso and is in very good condition. It measures 14.25" x 9.75".
