BEDROOM SUITE

President Millard Fillmore's Bedroom Suite, circa 1870's

 

Truly a RARE, Important, Once in a life time find and an opportunity to own a slice of American Victorian History.  As the written documentation you will receive with this fabulous set states, "This is the Bedroom Suite President Millard Fillmore commissioned to have made in an effort to out do the bed in the Linclon Bedroom in the White House".

This is a very fine, ornate Victorian Renaissance Revival Walnut & Burl Walnut bedroom suite commissioned by the 13th President of the United States of America and something we are very proud to own.  According to the accompanying documentation we can deduce with confidence that the maker of this fine set was Mitchell & Rammelsberg that also made the Bed in the Linclon Bedroom in the White House.

Features include the tall two piece headboard with amazing arched framed burl panel, flanked by beautiful maidens and full burl columns with ornate capitols, a huge crest featuring an egg and a shield burl panel, five sets of finials, and elaborate use of gold incising.  The conforming foot board and side rails feature a raised burl panel banner featuring 7 gold incised roundels and three removable cap finials.  The equally impressive mirrored back dresser has the very same features as the bed, the crest, the maidens, the burl columns with fine capitals, and the trophy finals are all identical.  The base has a white marble top and four full drawers with raised panels and polished drop finials.  All presented in professionally restored condition.  The bed & dresser are accompanied by their original casters. 

Along with your purchase you will receive a letter confirming ownership, written and signed by the Suites third owner, a thirty-one start flag (custom made in Charleston, SC, USA), two framed portraits of the President, and an informative folder about President Millard Fillmore.  The dresser is also signed by its third owner and a drawer is signed by a subsequent owner.  We are including a letter documenting  the recent ownership of this fine Historical Treasure and there by completing the ownership chain from President Fillmore to present.

The Victorian Renaissance Marble Top table in the pictures is for display purposes and is available under a separate listing.
