Offered here is a fabulous coin silver punch ladle by North Carolina silversmith John C. Palmer (ca. 1800-1893). The museum quality serving piece is about thirteen inches in length and is engraved RHB for the original owners. It was presented as a gift and used at the wedding of Dr. Richard Blacknall (1809-1881) and Harriet Saunders Russell (1812-1873) in 1831 at Oxford. Palmer's mark is clearly visible on the handle of the ladle. He learned the silversmith trade in Raleigh in the 1820s, and after brief stops in Oxford, Chatham County, and Salisbury he returned to Raleigh (1840) where he remained for the rest of his life. His biography and examples of his work are included in the fine work by George B. Cutten and Mary Reynolds Peacock titled Silversmiths of North Carolina, 1696-1860 (North Carolina Division of Archives and History, 1984). Don't miss this rare graceful punch ladle by a Southern silversmith. Buyer pays insurance and can determine which post office shipping service preferred.  First class shipping and international shipping costs listed are only approximations. Good luck.
