A black vintage all wool tailcoat by Montague Burton. This is a genuine vintage item dating from around 1940s. The fabric is black pure wool and the coat lapels are black silk grosgrain. This is a classic black tail coat and would have been made for formal evening wear - very Fred Astair.
The coat is double breasted with a row of black buttons on both sides of the coat. These coats do not fasten closed and are made to wear open over a white waistcoat . The coat has short cropped front with pointed lapels and long tails at the back. There are three black buttons on each sleeve. There is a single vent at the back with two buttons on the back at the top of the vent.
The coat has a single breast pocket on the outer coat and a further two slip in pockets inside the coat. The coat is lined with black satin fabric and has a further two secret pockets within the lining of the tail section of the coat.
Size - please check carefully - these measurements are taken with the coat lying flat.
SMALL - this coat will fit a small size. Chest size 36 inches - may fit 38 chest with the coat open - from armpit to armpit is 18 inches. Length from nape of neck to hem is 42 inches including the tials at the back. Shoulder to shoulder across the back measures 17 inches. Sleeve from shoulder seam to cuff is 25 inches.
This coat will fit a slender man - or a woman size 12 UK
Condition - in excellent condition there are no holes or stains on this coat. The pure wool fabric is in very good condition and you can see this has been well tailored. All buttons are original. The inside black satin lining is in very good clean condition with no stains under the arms. This coat has been in store for many years and may benefit from dry cleaning.
A fabulous quality vintage tailcoat in very good condition - ideal for formal evening wear, ballroom dancing, or vintage costume.
