All joint connections are designed using the old
fashioned craftsmanship style when true workmanship was the only way to go

allow for solid traditional construction without the use of ugly steel brackets and fixtures, again this is the old traditional way and it looks superior to
the way it's done these days.

Personal
Touch
Components such as the post shoes for fixing to
concrete or using a footing in ground are up to the individual to decide on
type and design (from your local hardware)
Post moulds and corner brackets can be added to
dress up the design, again design and style is the choice of the individual
Adding grooves or flutes to the posts and
droppers or can also make a nice touch
Fancy corner brackets can be added to enhance the look even further
Hints and
Recommendations
It is recommended that you use either LOSP
treated timber (my preference) which comes treated and pre-primed, or other rot and termite proof timber
Use only bolts and screws with a recommended
coating for treated timbers to help avoid erosion of the fixings – I prefer to
use screws rather than nails, a far better connection and no risk of hammer
marks on the timber.
Applying at least 2 coats of paint to all cut
ends, notches etc. before you assemble the verandah helps to ensure that not
timber is exposed to the elements and thus protecting it further from water rot
or termites.
Applying 2 coats to the posts before fixing the
optional post moulds and post "build-up" components will also help to
protect the timber
A light sanding between coats helps to give a great smooth painted surface
Do as many cuts as possible using a mitre saw
with a fine tooth blade, this will give a nice straight cut and better surface
for painting
Please follow all safety guidelines when using power tools
and machinery
