ShonKy Firewood Special No6  Bass Guitar

The ShonKy Firewood specials are constructed painstakingly hand selected pieces of scrap wood from my other guitar building endeavours and other bits of junk I collect.

This is the first Bass version of the firewood special and Its made with some very very old oak beams some Ash offcuts and a good and perfectly functional re-used bass guitar neck.

The wood is pretty much in the state it was found ie woodworm holes cracks and splits etc It has been fully treated so it is stable and has been glued and dowelled together. The neck socket and pickup cavity where all carved out with a drill and chisel to keep the rough look. And some extra splintered effects where added around the cavities.  

The neck has been modified and finished to match the aesthetic look of the body with a rough cut headstock and a lightly aged finish. The frets have been dressed and polished.

It has been finished with Danish oil and a matt poly varnish top coat. Effort has been made to ensure its comfortable to play with the minimum amount of roughness especially at the body contact areas.

It has a unbranded re-used Jbass style pickup and a single volume control. The knob is made from elm and the Control plate is a slice of yew. The electric components are all new good quality items.

The bridge is a vintage 80's Korean or Japanese bridge and the Machine heads are re-used too all show signs of age which suit the overall look.

The strap pins are a couple of coach bolts.

It plays really nicely with low action and sounds erm!  Bassy!

It is a heavy beast at 5.5kg!
