motodrome are pleased to offer this 1998/S reg Land Rover Defender 50th Anniversary Special Edition, as usual finished in Atlantis Metallic. This one is GB089, one of the 385 sold in the UK. . As far as both ourselves and the 50th register are aware, GB089 is the only 50th that was prepared for overlanding expeditions, and we know from it’s previous owner 2002-12 that it went to Iceland and inside the Arctic Circle during his time with it. We last sold it in 2013 whereupon it went into honourable retirement pottering around Wiltshire with a very enthusiastic owner who’s just sold it back to us, having refurbished the vehicle significantly during his ownership, to the tune of approx £13000. The factory specification includes - automatic transmission, anti-roll bars, air conditioning) , sunroof, pewter alloy wheels with set of 5 BF Goodrich LT265/75 R16 MT tyres ,factory rollcage, A bar, chequerplate, cubbybox, , lowered rear bulkhead, alarm/immobiliser, mudflaps, and towpack mounted on NAS-style rear step. The warranted mileage of 110000 miles is supported by history from the very rare original build manifest onwards. Main dealer serviced until 64K, thereafter by specialists, all invoices available , all old MOT’s together with the original 50th anniversary portfolio. Head gaskets replaced. Last serviced at 108000 by a reputable specialist, so it’s ready to go.. Upgrades as follows: fitted with the Tornado chip, a new Warn XD9000i winch with remote control mounted on winch bumper, Old Man Emu springs /shocks all round (with a 40mm lift), stainless exhaust, underbody guards & jackable rockslider sills, high lift jack, auxiliary LightForce lights, auxiliary long-range fuel tank, light guards front & rear, access ladder, swingaway spare wheel carrier, & JVC radio/CD with USB port, and motolita steering wheel. . It comes with MOT (no advisories) to August 2017 and 6 months warranty, and it’s rather lovely throughout. On test on arrival it performed without apparent fault. The body and paintwork on this one look really good, with no major dinks, especially as it has been used for overlanding, and the paint is seemingly original ( with the exception of the tailgate, roof and possibly the bonnet) with far less electrolytic reaction and broken paint than you might expect. Both scuttle corners are excellent, as are both A posts. Both the front doorframes are very good, and as the tailgate is new, that's fine too. . There are a couple of small parking dinks to the barrelsides and doors, as you'd expect, See video for more details. . Obviously expect small dents, little areas of paint loss, slightly wavy panels and minor imperfections etc - it's still an older Landy after all that and blemishes give it character, but apart from the above, all I can really criticise is some electrolytic reaction here and there (which hasn't broken through the paint) but overall it's no more than you'd expect on an 18 year old Defender. . . . Interior – really nice as always, clean and well-preserved. Footwell carpets are still there but are covered with rubber mats. Nothing to criticise, save for the aftermarket battery condition indicator has been disconnected but not removed. . . . See video for full appraisal
Starts on the button hot or cold and performs without fault- doesn't display any signs of misfiring, hesitancy or overheating, with a smooth shifting gearbox etc, good steering and brakes, and no backlash in the transmission, and it sounds great, and a little livlier than standard with the Tornado chip. There's nothing I can really criticise, apart from the odometer display is dim and sometimes fades out completely (a common problem on these) . . . See video for full appraisal
