Austin Princess 2  1.7 HL  " The Wedge "   These cars at last are starting to catch the eyes of enthusiasts and not before time !   When the Wedge was launched it was highly rated by road testers of the day and made the competition look positively out dated by comparison. A roomy comfortable saloon with up to date elegant styling and excellent road manners is how more than one road tester wrote about the new Princess, no wonder within weeks there was a long waiting list for the new car.  Yes we've all heard the Terry & June jokes and how awful BL cars were Yawn, Yawn.  But at last these much maligned and under rated cars are now starting to have their day.

This particular wedge has been in storage for many years possibly over 14 years  and was awoken earlier this year, it was checked over for MOT and duly past in July, so the car now has 11 months MOT. A new fuel pump and battery have been fitted and the oils changed . The car starts on the button and runs and drives very well. The engine and gearbox are both sweet. All the windows wind up and down, all the doors lock including the boot and all the instrumentation works apart from the fuel gauge, a new fuel tank sender is needed. All the tyres are legal, the spare needs replacing. 

The body work and paint are both very good including the arches, there has been some touching up to the doors but they are all quite solid, on lifting the carpets the floors all look excellent as does the boot floor and tool compartment, complete with tools. The car still sports the supplying dealers number plates, always a nice touch. The interior again is very good throughout, it still has the original BL rubber over mats fitted. This car has only had 2 owners and the previous owner told me the mileage is believed as correct at 44,912 which looking at the car I have no reason to doubt.  This is a rare car that was once an everyday piece of street furniture, its a car that could easily be taken up a level by its new owner. A very usable entry level classic car thats not only unusual but rare.
