Very rare Commodore 65 prototype (also known as the C64DX). Serial number 3. It's estimated that only between 50-200 of these computers were produced and they were not intended for the public. They were prototypes built for development, but they were later sold to the public through Grapevine after Commodore's bankruptcy.

I purchased this computer several years ago and it's been a treasured piece of my Commodore collection since then. The motherboard is a revision 2A board with the number "3" written on it in one spot and "D3" written in another spot.
The computer is missing the VIC-III chip so it is non-functional. The 4510, DMAgic, FDC, RAM, ROM and SID sockets are populated with the correct chips. It's my assumption that this computer only needs the VIC-III chip to be functional again. I have no way of testing this so the computer is being sold "as-is" and should be considered a collector's piece.

I was told this computer was probably used in the lab at Commodore as there are a few solvent stains on the case near the floppy drive as shown in the photos. They're cosmetic only and I feel they add to the computer's uniqueness.

These are some of the specs for the C65:
4510 CPU @ 3.54 MHz
VIC-III graphics chip capable of producing 256 colors from a pallet of 4096
Two 8580 SID sound chips for producing stereo sound
DMAgic DMA controller
128K RAM
128K ROM
Internal floppy drive with dedicated controller chip
Backwards compatibility with Commodore 64 software and peripherals.
