This is Minnesota history. This is Laura 1975, the earliest rhythm & blues record from The Big M's. My source indicates the record was released in 1958, which pre-dates some of the rarest doo-wop records out of Minneapolis. I have seen it listed as 1960, but my source indicates 1958.
This record was recorded at Kay Bank Studios in Minneapolis and features Maurice McKinnies, who went on to be a very powerful force in Twin Cities R&B, soul and funk and the Munson Brothers. This was the only release The Big M's did. From my research and reading, I have learned that all of the original acetates and tapes were thrown out back in the day. The labels are in M- to EX- condition. There is a catalog sticker on the flip side, but I have left it just as I found it. The record visually grades between VG and VG+. Having said that, the record is much closer to VG+. The record has light paper sleeve scuffs, but there are no feelable scuffs. The record is flat and plays flat. The record plays M- without any clicks, pops or anything else that would take away from enjoyment of the record. I welcome hearing from you and know you would be proud to own this piece of Minnesota/R&B history. I have recorded each song in its entirety below with my camera in HD. I can also post MP3 samples as well. To hear the A side and B side just as it comes from the record, please listen to it here below. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcI5llibAvw www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYVZdXPsPM8 I can combine multiple auction wins to save on postage costs. All 45 RPM/7" records will be sent in a 45 rpm mailer with a piece of cardboard on both sides of the record. The 45 will be shipped to you with a protective plastic sleeve. Any record in a picture sleeve or company sleeve will be mailed outside the sleeve to prevent damage of the sleeve. I am more than happy to combine shipping on multiple record purchases. I am a very picky grader and grade strictly. Something I grade as VG condition may be seen by others as VG+. I’d rather grade on the conservative side and have you be pleasantly surprised. Nothing is more disappointing than receiving records from people who grossly over-grade the condition of an LP or CD. Postage and packaging rates are calculated below using the postage calculator. All packages include a $1.25 handling charge that covers the cost of the heavy-duty cardboard mailer and cardboard inserts. I accept PayPal (my personal preference).Payment requirements: Payment MUST be made within 7-10 days unless prior arrangements have been made. I am a reasonable and flexible person, but if there is a delay with payment, please communicate with me. Thank you. PAYPAL USERS: If you win more than one item from me, please send payment as one payment only rather than paying me for each item separately. Best of luck to you! |
