Up for auction are four cuttings from the most prized fig in my collection, and I grow many exotic figs. No other fig in my experience compares to it in terms of earliness, productivity, growth rate, ease of rooting, and the overall taste. It is the earliest fig tree in my collection to bear fruit in the Seattle area (even earlier than Desert King), and does not split in the rain. In terms of similarity in taste, the best analogy would be a Smith fig on steroids. The sugars tend to caramelize under the skin (see the dark outer layer in picture 1), which produce a very intense burst of sweetness and flavor. The leaves are a shiny deep green color; large and very ornamental. I received my cuttings from one of the most trusted and knowledgeable sources. Here is a little more information from him on Figs4Fun: "A 100% pure sugar/honey on this fig,so sweet that you have to drink some water after. Was given to me by a friend of mine from Syria, from the city of Qalaat al Madiq." http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/qalaat-al-madiq-fig-6002105 Both the breba and the main crop are outstanding. The breba crop (picture 1) is large and ripens in late July to early August in Seattle, and is the best breba of any fig I have ever had. The main crop (picture 6) is smaller but very tasty and aromatic, and ripens at the end of September. Note how well developed the main crop is in picture 4 when the breba crop was fully ripe on August 7. The earliness and superior taste of this fig give it the upper hand in zones with short summers: late figs like Black Madeira and Col de Dame often do not fully ripen to their full potential and take a lot of effort to grow. I consider the taste to be the #4 in my orchard after Kathleen's Black, Black Madeira and Col de Dame respectively. The only weakness it has is that the ample sugars overpower the acidity, but the taste is still very rich and complex. These will be my last cuttings for this year. Please note that I only ship to the lower 48 states (no international or shipping to Alaska or Hawaii for this auction). I ship USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation within two business days of receiving payment. If you have any questions please ask. Thank you |
