Absolutely stunning, very rare Freddy Grubb 1950's Reynolds 531 Steel frameset. This frame was restored a few years ago and kept in dry storage and never built up. It's in an immaculate deep red lustre respray and is very straight and true. The headset is non-branded although there is no bottom bracket fitted. The lug work is stunning as can be seen by the co-joined top tube lugs and the amazing detail around the seat post and rear bridge. This will make someone a stunning vintage bicycle perfect for L'Eroica. We think this is the Côte D'Azur model from the intricate lug work (referenced by the 1950's catalogue here: http://www.nkilgariff.com/FGcats/Grubb1950poss/FG1950_Cat.htm). Serial no is 2641, so relatively soon after the bike referenced here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=216841 which means late 1940's early 1950's.
Freddie Grubb was the legend of the pre-war cycling circuit competing in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, and taking part in the 1914 Giro d'Italia covered in detail in Tim Moore's book: Gironimo!: Riding the Very Terrible 1914 Tour of Italyhttp://amzn.to/2iuPhfwHere's your chance to own an extremely nice piece of cycling history. |
