HO Brass EMD Original 1947 "Train of Tomorrow" Factory Painted 4-car Set with Brass Custom Detailed/Painted EMD E-7A. Cars Produced in 2001 by Samhongsa of Korea for The Original Whistle Stop (Pasadena, Calif) to Mark Their 50th Year in Business. Locomotive Produced by Samhongsa for Oriental Ltd. Super RARE Combo. NO RESERVE AUCTION

To mark their 50th anniversary in 2001, the Original Whistle Stop in Pasadena, CA  made an arrangement with Challenger Imports to produce a limited edition of only 50 sets of EMD's 1947 Train of Tomorrow passenger train. The four streamline dome cars were produced by Samhongsa of Korea as a factory-painted set. The set included inserts for the dome interiors, as well as a set of etched metal details to be attached to a (NOT-included) E-7A. The passenger cars were provided in a large box with five inserts -- one empty space for the locomotive.

The 1947 Train of Tomorrow was a joint venture between General Motors and Pullman-Standard, built as a travelling display presenting to North America all the latest technology in rail transportation. The four cars in the set are: "Star Dust" coach, "Dream Cloud" 3 cmpt - 2 Drw - 8 Rmt Sleeper, "Sky View" Diner and "Moon Glow" Lounge Observation.

The train was pulled by E-7A #765 during its cross country journeys between 1947 and 1950. The entire set was painted with deep blue highlights over the gleaming stainless steel siding. In 1950 the train was sold to Union Pacific at which time the cars were repainted and renumbered. Only the observation car survived the scrapper's torch. It is currently awaiting potential restoration in Ogden, Utah.

The dome car models are pristine, with all interiors installed. The locomotive was custom painted and detailed with the provided etched plates just after the set was released. The superior fit and finish of the custom painted and detailed locomotive are a virtual match to the car set. The locomotive has been test run and performs like new.

All boxes and original packaging are provided, including a reprint of a "Train of Tomorrow" promotional brochure, and the box for the E-7A.

The cars of this rare set are extraordinary by themselves. The matched and complete set with the superior - and correct - E-7A make this a one-of-a-kind train set of the highest quality. Don't let this one slip away. This is being offered as a NO RESERVE AUCTION. The opening bid is roughly what the cars alone have recently sold for.
