This is the best time to plant zoysiagrass. Zoysia goes through a process called Trans-Location beginning when the season changes to fall. This process can be likened to a bear in hibernation. Normally, during the growing season, zoysia uses the nutrients it gathers to grow blades of grass and spread via runners. When it switches to trans-location it transfers the nutrients to the roots and stores them there where they become available immediately to your plugs as soon as green up begins. Planting plugs now and up to 6 weeks before your first major hard killing frost allows the plugs plenty of time to establish themselves. They will be greening up as the snow melts and be established for the first spring rain. As a result you will have gained months on spring planted plugs.
