You are bidding on a fully tested working Macintosh SE/30 computer with Ethernet, keyboard, and mouse -- ready to use.

Everyone has their favorite vintage Mac.  Among those who actually used early compact Macs, however, the SE/30 is the hands down favorite.  Released in 1989, the SE/30 was the fastest and most expandable of the black and white compact macs.  Its 68030 processor and standard math coprocessor made it the most powerful all-in-one computer you could put on your desk at the time, and the machines were very popular with programmers and system developers.  To learn more about the Mac SE/30, please click here .

This particular SE/30 is serial number F9397GZK02, the 8669th Mac manufactured during the 39th week of 1989 in Fremont, California, USA.  Cosmetically this computer is excellent, with only a few minor blemishes and none of the typical yellowing often found on early Macs (see photos).  The machine is clean inside too (photo 5).  While I had the case open I increased the memory to 8MB.  I also cleaned the floppy disk drive and put in a new backup battery so that the date, time, and other settings would be maintained even when the computer is unplugged.  Unlike the earliest compact Macs the SE/30 has automatic voltage selection so it will work on any AC voltage from 100 volts to 240 volts, making it suitable for world-wide use.

This SE/30 has been carefully tested and is working well.  It boots up System 6 from the 40 megabyte hard drive.  The screen is bright and sharp (see photos).  (The bands you see in some screen photos are caused by my digital camera.  You will not see them when you use the computer.)   I ran the complete set of Apple hardware diagnostics and this computer passed them all (photo 7).  This is a very reliable SE/30.  The only problem I found was that the sound is inaudible.  Installed software includes Word, Excel, HyperCard, Kermit, Mac Photography Workshop, and more.

I installed a Farallon Ethernet card in this SE/30, an enhancement that makes these vintage machines much more useable.  As you can see from the last photo, I was able to connect to my networked laser printer and print a file.  The 3-way Ethernet card has a standard 10BASE-T Ethernet jack, plus a "thick" connector and a "thin" connector.

This auction includes a keyboard with ADB cable, mouse, and power cord in addition to the SE/30 itself (see photo 1).  All you need to do is unpack it, connect the parts, and fire it up.  If you are looking for a nice example of what is probably the most-loved vintage Mac for fun and games or to add to your Mac collection, I think you will like this one.

On request I will send the auction winner at no charge PDF e-mail attachments containing the official Apple service manual for the Macintosh SE/30.  Hard to find and very useful.

I have been collecting and restoring vintage computers for a long time.  Please see my future auctions for vintage Macs and Mac peripherals, plus occasional other vintage computing items.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

I don't have a lot of silly rules for buyers:  Pay for your item and I'll send it you. I've been a buyer and a seller on eBay for more than a dozen years and have a near perfect feedback record. I'll trust you and you can trust me to do right.

Please use the eBay shipping calculator to figure your shipping cost anywhere in the world.  I have shipped almost a hundred vintage Macs all over the world safely, and your SE/30 will be packed with care and respect.  Your SE/30 will be fully insured against loss or damage, but due to the delicate nature of vintage computers it is not returnable.

Note to Foreign Bidders:  Many countries have a package size restriction of 79 inches (length + girth) on Priority Mail from the US.  Safe packaging of this computer with the accessories requires a larger box than that.  The eBay shipping calculator will show Global Express mail for countries with a 79" Priority Mail limit.  In such cases I can probably ship your order for far less by shipping the keyboard and mouse separately.  Or you may delete the keyboard for a $25 credit and I can ship everything else by Priority Mail in a 79" box.  I will work with foreign bidders to find the least expensive way to ship to you.
