This is a true Ford Cobra, Mustang side oiler service block. Anywhere you go car people always talk about the 427 side oiler like it is the King of all engines and here is one ready to go into your project right now. This is a service block with a date of May 10th 1972 and on the back of the block it says 66-427 and there is also a V welded into it. On the front of the block it says 86 and then below it 352. On the side of the block you can see there is steel screw in freeze plugs, you can also see on the side of the block that it has cross bolt main caps. And you can tell that it is a side oiler because it has oil galley plugs on the sides of the block. I just took this over yesterday and had the engine dynoed and it sounded great. I have the dyno sheet in one of the pictures and as you can see it did over 502 HP. This is by far more engine then most Mustangs and Cobras need but who doesnt like a lot of power. I bought a brand new viper in 2003 and that had 500HP and it was just crazy how much power that car had.
This has the oval air cleaner, there is a primary carb C5AF-9510-BU and a Secondary carb C5AF-9510-BT and the metering bowls are 4752 and these are Holley carbs. The intake is a high rise intake and it is C4AE-9425-D and the heads they are both C4AE-9425-D and they are both dated OJ29. The oil pan is a Cobra oil pan and it says TDB on it. This has a solid lifter cam in it, also roller rockers and shafts.
This engine has less then 1,000 miles on it. I had it in a Mustang and I wanted to keep this engine because it ran extremely well so I put the original 390 back in the car and sold it and kept this for one of my own cars in the future. Now I am at the point where I want to sell it. Everything on this engine is in excellent condition and it is ready to bolt on and drive. If you have any questions you can call me at 612-275-8722 or I can give you the engine builders # that dynoed this for me yesterday if you would like to talk with him. Thanks Kevin Manley. 612-275-8722 I will ship this engine but I dont know what the cost is.  I would say anywhere in the US will be 500 dollars or less. Give me a call if you are interested in finding out what the cost will be.
I had a lot of people interested in this block but they wouldnt buy the engine until I took it apart. So finally I had one of the guys in my shop take it apart. What we found out is the short block was NOS as you can tell by all the paint markings. If it was rebuilt they would clean and boil it and all the markings would be gone. The block is near perfect and it is standard. Also the internals have been balanced and all the pistons are numbered and you can see where they have balanced it. There is no ridge in any of the bores and the engine looks fresh. The connecting rods are Ford original but the crank is a 1U which is a 428 crank so the engine is stroked.
The engine will now be sold apart we can bolt it back together for transport but this will need new gaskets and broke in again. The only thing we found wrong is the engine was not broke in properly so there is one lifter that has a low spot and so the cam would need replaced also. So this engine made 502 HP with one bad lifter so once that is fixed it will really go. This has a solid cam, roller rocker arms that look like new, standard bore, standard rods and main bearings, rods and cranks balanced.
Now that I have it apart I can answer almost any question that you like so let me know if you need more information. Thanks Kevin Manley. 612-275-8722
