NO RESERVE NO RESERVE NO RESERVE NO RESERVE

Up for auction at NO RESERVE is a cool 1976 Olds 442 "W29" Hardtop Coupe in Beautiful Lime Metallic with the White Stripe Package and a White Swivel Bucket Seat interior.   What really makes this 1976 Olds 442 stand apart from others is the Factory Drive-train Option. This 442 was ordered with the Optional Olds 260 V8 engine and the Rare Borg Warner 5 Speed Manual Transmission which was only available in Cutlass & 442 Models for 1976-1977 and in very limited numbers. This is a low production 442 in a Stunning original color combination and it's powered by the most unusual if not the rarest drive-train combination offered in 1976. How many 1976 Olds 442's have you seen in Awesome Lime Metallic with a White interior with the 260 V8 engine and the 5 Speed Manual Transmission?   I have never seen another!    I'm sure there has to be at least another or maybe even a couple but I have yet to see another in this gorgeous color combination with the 5 Speed Transmission. I have seen a few 1976 & 1977 Cutlass Models with the 260 V8 and the 5 Speed Manual Transmission over the last 30 years but I can count them on one hand and I have never seen another 1976 Oldsmobile 442 in Lime Metallic with the 260 V8 engine & 5 Speed Transmission!

There were 186,647 Cutlass Supreme Hardtop Coupe's Produced in 1976. The 1976 Oldsmobile 442 or W29 Package was only available on the 1976 Cutlass S and 1976 Cutlass S Coupe Production was 59,179 and of those cars just 9,526 were equipped with the "W29" / 442 Package.  That's a total of 9,576 Oldsmobile 442's built in 1976 and of those, only a handful were equipped with the 260 V8 engine and 5 Speed Manual Transmission.
I have done a little research on 1976 Cutlass models built with the Olds 260 V8 engine / 5 Speed Manual Transmission combination and the only documented production numbers for this unusual drive-train was found in a letter from the Oldsmobile History Center back in September 1992.    In that letter Oldsmobile's History Center responds to a phone call from the owner of a 1976 Cutlass Supreme Hardtop asking about production numbers for 260 5 Speed optioned 1976 Cutlass Supreme's.    Oldsmobile goes on to tell this gentleman that only "562" of the 186,647 1976 Cutlass Supreme Hardtops Coupe Models were optioned with the 260 engine and 5 Speed Manual Transmission.   I wondered if the "562" actually covered the entire production run of all 1976 Cutlass Models with the 260 & 5 Speed?    If you take the 186,647 Cutlass Supreme Hardtop Coupe's for 1976 and add them to the 59,179 Cutlass "S" 2 Door Coupe's for 1976 then you have a total of 245,826 and then divide that by "562" and you have approximately 0.22%  That's just 0.22% of the 1976 Cutlass Supreme Hardtops & Cutlass S/442's built with the 260 engine and 5 speed Manual Transmission or approximately 2.2 cars in every 1,000 built.  That is an amazingly low number which would explain why we rarely see these cars nearly 38 years later.  No matter how you try to figure it, the Production Numbers for this 1976 Olds 442 are exceptionally low!

Before I go into a long winded description, let me start by saying that the "442" Package was only available on the Cutlass "S" Models for 1976 and the 1976 Cutlass S Models were a completely different car than the Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass Salon and Cutlass Supreme Brougham models.   The 1976 Olds Cutlass S with the "W29/442" Package have an incredibly cool design!
The 1976 Cutlass S & 442 Models were the only models in the 1976 Cutlass line to receive the new and very cool aerodynamic Front-end with it's sloped-back split Grills with it's new rectangular quad headlight design along with the sharp fastback style rear-end with it's larger Triangular shaped quarter windows and rear glass.  The 1976 Cutlass S/442 Models also used a completely different Taillight assembly than any of the other Cutlass Models for 1976.  Just take a look at the front-end design of any 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass Supreme Brougham or Cutlass Salon models and then check out the Cutlass S/442 Models and you will quickly see the many differences.  I find the Cutlass "S" & 442 Colonnade Coupe's far more attractive than the more traditional looking Cutlass Supreme Models. The cool sweeping fastback style roof-line combined with the new slanted grill and quad headlights give the 442's a more muscular look!

This Olds Coupe is an Original Documented "W29" car with it's Original Assembly Line Broadcast Sheet which shows the "W29" option along with the Rare Factory 5 Speed Manual Transmission,  FE2 Heavy Duty Suspension which includes the Heavy Duty Springs, Firm Ride Shocks, Large Front & Rear Sway Bars, Original 15x7" SS III Wheels, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, AM-FM Stereo, Rear Window Defogger and all Documented by it's Original Broadcast Sheet which shows this to be a Factory Original Code "W29" 442!
The 442 is an Original Lime Metallic Paint car as shown on the Broadcast Sheet and the Original Cowl Tag. This 442 looks super cool in the Lime Metallic with the White 442 striping and decals.  This Lime Metallic/White Striped 442 reminds me of the early days of the Muscle car with little in the way of power robbing accessories.....This 1976 Olds 442 "W29" is equipped with the Factory WE2 Suspension which includes the Heavy Duty Springs, Heavy Duty Shocks, Heavy Duty Front & Rear Sway Bars and more...Dual Sport Mirrors, 4 Spoke Sport Steering Wheel and the 15x7" Olds Rally Wheels in body color with the Center Caps & Trim Rings.  The Swivel Strato Bucket Seats are said to be optional equipment according to the original 1976 Olds Sales literature although I can't say that I remember seeing any 1976 Olds 442 with a Bench seat although I'm sure there are a few out there. This 442 is equipped with Power Steering & Power Disc Brakes and both the steering and brakes are excellent.  The car has no air conditioning, no power windows, no power locks or tilt wheel but it does have the Optional AM-FM Stereo,Optional Rear Window Defogger which is an electric defogger/defroster.  The interior is quite simple but has a great looking design with the White Swivel Bucket Seats, White Door Panels and White Headliner against the Lime Dash, Seat Belts, Original 5 Speed Shifter Consolette and Green Carpets.

                                        Engine, Transmission & Rear

This 1976 Olds 442 is equipped with the Optional Oldsmobile 260 cubic inch V8 engine and the Optional 5 Speed Manual Borg Warner Transmission.  The 442 is said to have 44,000 original miles and the title shows the 44,000 Miles but I have no other documentation to prove the exact or actual mileage on the car so I can't be sure that the 44,000 miles is correct or not. I was told by the previous owner that the 44,000 miles are correct but who knows?  The 260 engine runs very well with no unusual noises, no ticks, no taps , no knocks and no smoke....absolutely no unusual noises or issues other than a finicky choke. The engine starts easily and runs nice and smooth.  The 260 engine is said to be one of the most reliable V8 engines of the era.... super reliable, extremely durable and fairly economical to run and especially with the 5 Speed Transmission and the highway geared rear. These 260 engines will go many miles if treated properly and will give you good gas mileage along with reliability.  Keep in mind that this engine was introduced at a time when the government was coming down heavy on auto makers to build cars that got better gas mileage.  The 260 V8 was one of the engines that was built with gas mileage in mind and when combined with the 5 Speed Borg Warner Manual Transmission, they were extremely efficient.  The 260 is not a powerhouse by any means but it runs well and will keep the 442 cruising along nicely at highway speeds while still getting good gas mileage.  I have driven this 1976 Olds 442 up to 85 mph on the Interstate and the car drove beautifully with no problems or unusual vibrations.... just smooth cruising!  The 260 engine ran great and accelerated just fine although it wasn't going to break any land speed records.  The 260 combined with the 5 Speed Transmission and the Highway gears in the rear make for one cool cruiser.   Just ask anyone that's ever owned a 260 Olds V8 powered vehicle and they will tell you that the engine was extremely reliable and very good on gas.   The 5 Speed Manual Transmission shifts easily with no unusual noises, no grinding, no popping out of gear....no problems!  The Transmission is excellent and the clutch works just as it should with no chatter or slipping.  The 5 Speed Transmissions shift pattern took a little getting used to as I'm usually cruising in a 4 speed car but once you've driven the car for a few miles, it comes to you just as though you've owned the car for years. The Transmission shifts easily with it's original Shifter and the Original Shift Knob is still in place with the shift pattern shown clearly across the top.  I'm not 100% sure as to the rear gear ratio but I believe it to be either a 2.56 or 2.73.... either way, this Transmission and Rear combination will allow you to cruise comfortably at 80 mph on the highway without so much as a strain on the engine.  You can literally cruise onto the highway and run the car up to 55 mph in third gear before you need to shift into fourth gear and there is still another gear left. There is no doubt that this 260 V8 5 Speed Tranny 442 was built with gas mileage in mind but it still has the awesome good looks and the feel of an old school Muscle car with it's V8 engine and Manual Transmission!  The 442 runs out real nice and you can cruise on the highway all day long at low rpm's.  The car drives down the road nicely and tracks very well on the open road or around town for that matter.  The steering feels good and the power disc brakes will stop the car quickly without pulling from one side to the other.  The engine is completely stock with the exception of a pair of Hooker Headers and Dual Exhaust installed by the previous owner.  The headers and dual exhaust give the engine a deeper rumble although the new pipes and mufflers end right at the rear axle and I would consider installing a pair of tailpipes if I were to keep the car just because I like the look of factory style tailpipes and when you add tailpipes, it always quiets the exhaust a bit more.  This is an excellent running and driving car and it has outstanding eye appeal.  This is not what I would call a show car but this 442 would be right at home at your Local Cruise Night Event or even your small town local car show.  Like I said, it's not a show car but it's still a nice solid original car with a wonderful color combination and awesome good looks so your sure to have some fun cruising in this Rare Low Production 1976 Olds 442!!!! The engine runs well and the clutch is great....transmission shifts perfectly....the 442 drives nicely with a great ride....no mechanical issues that I can think of except for that finicky choke which I will likely straighten out before the auction ends.

                                                Body and Paint

This 1976 Olds 442 is a pretty cool ride in the Factory Lime Metallic with the White Stripe Package. Lime Metallic is one of my favorite color options for 1976 Oldsmobile and is a fast reminder of the Muscle cars of a few years earlier.   It's a bit of a throwback to the earlier Muscle cars with their cool choices of High Impact paint colors.  You gotta love the great colors of the 70's with everything from Mopars Plum Crazy Purple, Top Banana Yellow, Panther Pink, Turbine Bronze to Ford's Grabber Blue, Competition Yellow, Candy Apple Red to AMC's Big Bad Green, Big Bad Blue & Big Bad Orange to GM's cool colors such as Oldsmobile's Rally Red, Sebring Yellow, Reef Turquoise and Chevy's Daytona Yellow, Royal Plum, Evening Orchid and Chevy's Monaco Orange or Hugger Orange and then there is Rally Green as seen on many 1969 Camaro's along with Pontiac's Carousel Red, Mayfair Maize, Orbit Orange, Limelight Green   The 1976 Olds 442 reminds me so much of the cool colors of the late 60's and early 70's and Lime Metallic would be right at home among the paint choices for 1970.  In fact Oldsmobile did offer a very similar color on their 1970-1971 Cutlass & 442 Line.   That's just one of the reasons that I really like this 5 Speed 442!
The Body on this 1976 Oldsmobile 442 Colonnade Coupe is in pretty good shape.  The car is nice and straight and quite solid overall.  The Paint has a nice shine and there is plenty of metallic in the paint which gives it an absolutely awesome look in natural sunlight.  The 442's paint appears to have been done within the last 10 years although I'm not exactly sure when it was painted. The paint looks great for any weekend driver or for your local cruise night events or even for your small town car show. I get many compliments while I'm out cruising in the 442 and everybody wants to tell you a story about a 442 that they owned or a Cutlass that their Mother had when they were kids.  It's funny how an old car can bring 2 perfect strangers together strictly on the common ground of owning an old car or knowing someone that owned a similar car.

This 1976 Olds 442 has very attractive paint that looks very nice overall but it does have various imperfections such as a few scratches, a couple of very minor door dings, paint chips and there are a couple of small bubbles starting to show at the Rear of the Triangular Shaped Quarter windows. These bubbles behind the glass are fairly minor and I've included a few pictures so you can see exactly what I'm talking about.  The Paint has a great shine and I have never so much as put a coat of wax on the car. I've washed the car a couple of times but I have not waxed it but I will give the car a good waxing before it leaves to go to it's new owner.   The Olds 442 has a nice solid body and it doesn't appear as though it was ever factory undercoated which is nice because you can get a really good look at the floors and the frame.  The body is very solid as a whole and far better than most of the mid 70's Oldsmobile Cutlass Models that I've seen on the East Coast over the years.  After looking the body over, I was able to find patch panels that were welded in on the back side of the lower quarter panels on each side although the factory outer lip along the bottoms of the quarter panels look nice and crisp as you can see in the pictures. This work was obviously done before the car was repainted and they did a pretty good job as there doesn't appear to be any bubbling or issues where the repairs were done. The Floors and Trunk are very solid overall and especially for a car that was not undercoated.  You can take a look at some of the pictures and you'll see the factory Lime paint and some of the factory gray primer on sections of the floor pans!  There was a small area on the drivers side front floor pan that had some rust but I had a friend repair it before the new carpets were installed. The floor pans are otherwise very nice and still have some of the original Lime Metallic Paint showing from the underside and under the carpets, the car still has most of it's original Lime Metallic Paint.   The Trunk Pan looks nice and solid and the same goes for the frame..... Nice and Solid!  When I first saw this car in the Fall of last year I was pretty smitten with it.  I just thought this 442 was awesome in it's Lime Metallic Paint and White 442 stripes and when I found that it was a rare Factory 5 Speed car, well I just had to have it!  It took awhile before I was able to make the deal on the car but I was finally buying another 3rd generation 442 and I couldn't have been happier.  I truly enjoy driving these 3rd generation 442's. Oldsmobile always made wonderful driving cars that have the smoothest of rides and the 3rd generation Cutlass & 442 Models are right up there with the best of them.  This is a really nice driving old car for sure!
I sold my 1973 Olds 442 "V" Code 455 4 Speed back in late 2010 and have been chasing that ghost ever since.  Don't get me wrong, I've had great fun as the caretaker of some very cool Oldsmobile's that I've had the privilege of driving and maintaining since parting with my 1973 442 but it's time for me to move on and send this very cool 1976 442 onto another Olds enthusiast.   Just want to make sure that I covered everything so here it goes again. The Paint looks nice although it does have a few scratches, chips and a couple of little door dings. The car looks great for your weekend cruiser or local Cruise Night car.  The body is quite solid overall although it has had some repair work done which I covered earlier. The 442 is nice and straight overall.  The Paint looks awesome in natural sunlight as the Lime Metallic really comes to life in the bright lighting of the sun....just awesome!   The Bumpers are Original and straight and the original Grills and Headlight Bezels are in good shape. The Headlight bezels have an argent colored painted area across the bottom and this painted area on the Headlight Bezels is starting to get a little thin so you could easily remove them and freshen them with a little Silver/Argent colored paint that can be found in any hardware store.  It's the little things like this that really make a difference and it's stuff that you can do yourself without spending a not of money.  The Glass in the car appears to be original although I didn't check the date codes. The Windshield appears to be in good shape. The Front and Rear Window Moldings are in nice shape.  The Doors open and close just like you'd expect these big heavy doors to close...they are heavy and always require a little more effort than the earlier Cutlass/442 models. I remember by friends brand new 1977 Monte Carlo which had the exact same styling and the same big heavy doors and when that car was new, it actually took a little effort to close the doors. If you have owned one of these 1973-1977 GM "A" Body cars then you know exactly what I mean.  The Doors lock and unlock with the keys and the Truck opens and closes just fine. The Hood fits nicely and the original inside Hood Release works as it should.  I can't think of anything else guys but if you have any questions then please feel free to ask. This is a pretty 1976 Olds 442 and I love the color combination. It's very unique and if you look down through the pictures then you will see an Original 1976 Oldsmobile Sales Brochure which shows the same style 1976 Cutlass S in Lime Metallic....just a stunning factory color and when you combine that with the factory W29/442 Package then you have a really cool car with an awesome stripe package and outstanding eye appeal!
                                       Electrical Components & Accessories
This Olds 442 is fairly spartan when it comes to power options which means less things to repair or less things to break.... just another way of looking at a low option car and to many Muscle car enthusiast, this is the way it should be as in the early days of the Muscle car, it was all about the power and not about the options. Most early Muscle cars were equipped much like this 1976 442. This car has Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Dual Sport Mirrors, 4 Spoke Steering Wheel, 15x7" Rally Wheels, AM-FM Stereo, Rear Window Defroster and a couple of other little things but not much in the way of options. It's very old school in many ways!   As far as the electrical components go, well all of the Dash Lights work as they should. The Headlights, both High & Low Beams work as they should.  The Front Parking Lights are nice and Bright and the Rear Running Lights come on when you put the Parking Lights on. The Side Marker Lights work on both Front Fenders and the Rear Quarter Panel Marker Lights also work as they should. The Taillights work as they should. The Rear License Plate Light works as it should. The Reverse Lights work properly which is not very common on Manual Transmission cars as the Reverse Lights are often disconnected on these older Stick Shift cars after they have a clutch replaced or some other work involving either the Clutch or the shifter.  Not the case with this 5 Speed Manual Transmission equipped Olds 442 as the Reverse Lights work perfectly. The Speedometer, Odometer, Gas Gauge, Parking Brake Warning Light, Dash Lights, Interior Courtesy Lights all work. The Heater/Defroster work but the Blower Switch seems to work on low setting only and is on all the time which I've been told is exactly what happens when the Blower Motor Dash Switch is going bad and I have another one to go with the car. The AM-FM Radio Lights up but nothing is coming on so I don't believe the Antenna or the Speakers are hooked up.  I never really bothered to check it out as I don't really listen to the Radio much when I'm cruising in a Classic car. I prefer to listen to the cool sound of the engine as you wind it up in between gears. This is always music to my ears and especially in classic cars equipped with a Manual Transmission. The Parking Brake or Emergency Brake appears to be 100% complete with all of the Cables intact and they appear to be in good condition but I can't seem to figure out how to get the cable to mount to the rear of the Parking Brake Bracket. The Bracket under the Dash has a provision for the Cable end to mount into the bracket and for some reason, I just can't figure out how it hooks into place. It appears that the previous owner replaced these pieces including the Parking Brake Cable but he might have run into the same dilemma that I had which is just not knowing exactly how the end of the Parking Brake Cable with it's unusually shaped end mounts into the bracket to help put the proper tension on the Brake Cable and Emergency Brake Pedal itself.  I know it's a simple fix and I believe that everything is there to get it working properly but I just can't figure it out.  I spent about 30 minutes trying to figure it out but I became frustrated and decided to leave it for the next guy. The Rear Window Defroster switch is located on the lower left side of the Dash and its a fairly simple type rocker switch and for some reason it's not lighting up when you put it in the on position. I have not looked into this and it could be working for all I know but I didn't see the light lit on the switch. One more thing, the drivers side door switch which opens when you open the doors to automatically turn on the interior dome light will need to be replaced. I have a new one for the car and will try to get it installed before the auction ends. These pieces have a tendency to go bad on these cars and I don't know why as I have never had another one that was bad except in another similar Oldsmobile.... go figure.  Anyway, I have it and will try to install it this week.  Literally every exterior light works as it should from the Headlights, High & Low Beams, Parking Lights, Taillights, Both Front Fender Side Marker Lights, Both Rear Quarter Panel Side Marker Lights, Turn Signals work as they should and cancel as they should. The License Plate Light works as do the Original Reverse Lights..... Gas Gauge works, Speedometer works, Odometer works, Dash Lights work, Parking Brake Warning Light works, Under Dash Courtesy Lights work, Windshield Wipers Word and the annoying Key Buzzer still works.... just a good old car that needs a few little things but it's a good driver that looks nice and is a blast to drive!

                                                     Interior
The Interior in this 1976 Oldsmobile 442 is the Original with the White Swivel Bucket Seats and White Rear Seat, White Door Panels, White Headliner, White Interior Trim while the Dash is the Original Green, Original Green Seat-Belts and Original Green Consolette for the 5 Speed Transmissions shifter, Black Rubber Shifter Boot and Chrome Retainer Ring.  The Interior is all Original with the exception of the Carpet set and the Interior Sill Plates which were replaced with new Reproduction pieces. The replacement reproduction carpet set looks nice and clean although the fit could have been a little better... overall a nice replacement for the tattered original carpeting that was removed from the car.  The New Sill Plates look great!  The Original White Strato Swivel Bucket Seats are in pretty good shape overall and especially considering that they are original 38 year old seats but they have some areas that are discolored and there are a couple of split seams on the drivers side.  The interior shows some wear like most 38 year old cars.  The Swivel Bucket Seat on the Drivers side does have a couple of splits in the seams....nothing that looks offensive but they are there and like most White Vinyl interiors, there is some cleaning that could be done and there is some discoloration in the vinyl. The Seats Swivel in and out as they should, which is pretty cool. The Rear Seat appears to be in pretty good shape and I don't believe there are any rips or splits but it would benefit from a good cleaning. The Door Panels have the usual chalking that these Door Panels are prone to, although they could be dyed or painted to make them look a little nicer and they are fine for a weekend driver. The Rear Seat Interior panels are in pretty nice shape and would benefit from a little cleaning but are otherwise in good original condition.  The Original 5 Speed Manual Transmission has the little Pedastal style Consolette which still retains it's Original Faux Leather Shifter Boot and the Chrome Retainer Ring that mounts under the Black Shift Boot is still in place. The Original Green Consolette appears to be in good shape and the Original 5 Speed Shifter is in good operating condition with it's Original 5 Speed Shift Knob with the 5 speed shift pattern still legible.  The Dash Pad has NO cracks although it does show some shrinkage as these Dash Pads are rather large and the sun along with changing temperatures seems to make these Dash Pads shrink or warp a bit. The Dash Pad could use a good cleaning which I'm sure would be an improvement and the Dash Pad would be just fine for a driver although if you wanted to go the "show car" route then you might consider replacing it. The Seat Belts are complete with both the front and rear seat belts complete and in working order. There are little plastic pieces at the outer edge of each bucket seat which attach to the seat to help to keep the seat-belts in place or inline for easier use and storage of the shoulder belts and these pieces are often broken or deteriorated from the years of exposure to the sun and changes in temperature. The Original Plastic seat-belt retainer on the drivers side is in place while the passenger side is with the car but needs to be replaced. It doesn't matter how careful you are with these pieces, they always seem to fall apart of break but the good news is that they are readily available and are cheap to buy and install quickly with 2 philips screws.  The Headliner shows some discoloration but is not ripped or torn and is fine as it is for a driver. The plastic pieces that surround the Headliner and run the entire perimeter of the cars interior do show some wear with the "A" Pillar pieces or the pieces that run from the Dash up to the Headliner showing the most wear although I have replaced the drivers side "A" Pillar Molding and the passenger side was in pretty good shape so I left that alone although a beautiful Original Passenger side molding will come with the car.  The Rear Package Tray is a dark Green and appears to be in pretty nice condition.  The Dash Components are complete including all of the Heater Control Knobs and Switches. The Original AM-FM Stereo is complete and Original to the car.  The Original Instrument Cluster is in good shape and the Original Speedometer and Gas Gauge work as they should and the same goes for the Odometer and the Speedometer.  This is a very cool 442 with an absolutely outstanding original color combination and although the interior does show some wear, it is original and it is comfortable and functional and of course it's an awesome color..... Gotta love the White Swivel Bucket Seat interior with the Lime Metallic Paint and White Stripes.   The interior does show some wear and could use a few things but as I said earlier, it's Original and it looks just fine for a weekend Cruiser but it's not perfect but then again it's going to have it's 38th Birthday soon and none of us are perfect at 38.    It's just a cool and fairly rare original 1976 Olds 442 and your not likely to see another one like this anytime soon!

                                                 Wheels and Tires
The Wheels are the Original Oldsmobile 15x7" Rally Wheels or the SSIII Style Wheels in Original Lime Metallic with all of the original Stainless inserts and the Original Trim Rings and Center Caps. The Wheels look nice.  The Tires are Brand New BF Goodrich Radial T/A P225/70R-15 and they have less than 200 miles on them since they were purchased new for this 1976 Olds 442 and mounted and balanced. The Tires are as new with Beautiful Raised White Letters and really give the Olds 442 that cool old school look!  There is just something about the BF Goodrich Radial T/A Tires that work really well with mid to late 70's and 80's era Muscle cars much like the Goodyear Polyglas GT Tires did on the late 60's to early 70's Muscle cars. These Tires not only look GREAT but they really help with the 442's already wonderful ride as well as helping with the cars overall handling and cornering.

                                              Production Figures
There seems to be a lot of confusion/controversy or just plain old misinformation over the actual production figures for the 1976 Olds 442 models equipped with the 260 V8 and the 5 Speed Manual Transmission. Since I have no absolute proof, I will post exactly what I've read and what I know to be true.  In 1976 Oldsmobile built a total of 59,179 Cutlass S Colonnade Coupe's and of those just 9,576 were equipped with the "W29" 442 Package.  I have not been able to figure out exactly how many of the 1976 Olds 442 models came with the optional and fairly rare 260 V8 engine / 5 Speed Borg Warner Manual Transmission combination.  I have read that there were anywhere from 114 to 562 various Cutlass Models with the 260 V8 engine and the 5 Speed Manual Transmission.  The only thing that I have from Oldsmobile is the letter from September of 1992 where Oldsmobile claims that they built 186,647 Cutlass Supreme Hardtop Coupe's for the year and just "562" were 260 V8 / 5 Speed cars.  Since this is the only number that I have seen in writing from Oldsmobile, I will assume that the "562" is the correct number for 260 V8 & 5 Speed Manual Transmission production or at least in the 1976 Cutlass Supreme Coupe Models which is still an exceptionally low number and breaks down to just 0.30% of the 1976 Cutlass Supreme Coupe's with this optional drive-train combination or approximately 3 cars in every 1,000 built with the 260 and the 5 speed. This is the number from Oldsmobile for the 1976 Cutlass Supreme Coupe's so if I take that same percentage and apply it to the 442 Models then approximately "30" 1976 Oldsmobile 442's would have the 260 V8 engine and 5 Speed Manual Transmission. Is that number close?  Who knows?  What I do know is that these cars are rare and very few people outside of the Oldsmobile faithful even know that the 260 V8/ 5 Speed Manual Transmission was offered in 1976 Oldsmobile 442's.  That's another thing I might have missed.... the 5 Speed Manual Transmission was only available with the 260 V8 engine in Cutlass/442 Models for 1976 and 1977 only!  The 1976 Cutlass was available with the 260 V8 and an automatic transmission for 1976 & 1977 but the only way to get the 5 Speed Manual Transmission was behind the 260 V8 engine. You couldn't get the 5 Speed Transmission with the 350 engine or the 455 engine!!!  The 5 Speed was only available with the 260 engine in the 1976 Olds 442 which in itself was quite unusual!   The 260 V8 engine was designed for fuel economy and these engines are very durable, super reliable and extremely smooth running engines. The 260 V8 engine may not have been the powerhouse that the Olds 350 & 455 were but the 260's were extremely durable and very reliable while providing excellent gas mileage!   Finding a Factory built 1976-1977 Olds Cutlass or 442 with the Factory installed 260 V8 engine and the 5 Speed Manual Transmission is like finding a needle in a haystack to say the least.
Just for the sake of comparison and to try to give you an idea as to the rarity of a 1976 Olds 442 equipped with the 260 V8 & 5 Speed Manual Transmission.... there were "515" 1968 Hurst Olds built and in 1969 there were only 914 Hurst Olds built. There were "1,935" Plymouth Roadrunner Superbirds built for 1970.   There were "4,475" 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 cars built.  There were only "530" 1967 Oldsmobile 442's built with the "W30" package and in 1969 Chevrolet built over 20,000 Camaro Z28's!     Please don't think I'm saying that the 1976 Olds 442 is in the same class as the Hurst Olds or W30 car or even the LS6/Z28 or Superbird.... I'm just using these rare desirable low production Muscle cars as an example of the rarity of the 1976 Olds 442 equipped with the 260 V8 & 5 Speed Manual Transmission.   If you use the production number of "562" 260/5 Speed 1976 Olds Cutlass Supreme Coupe's out of the 186,647 It is likely that less than "100" 1976 Oldsmobile 442's were equipped with the 260/5 speed combination or at least it surely appears to be the case when you consider the low production numbers given by the Oldsmobile History Center for 260/5 speed equipped 1976 Olds Cutlass Supreme Models.   No matter how you look at it, this is one unusual 1976 Oldsmobile 442 and even though the 442/W29 Package was simply an Appearance & Suspension Package, it was still a very cool and very attractive piece of American Muscle car history!    Thanks for reading through my production figures and for not blasting me too hard for my comparisons with some of the rarest and most collectible
                                          Closing & Overview
The 1976 Oldsmobile 442 Colonnade Coupe is a very cool car and a very rare car with the 260 V8 engine and the 5 Speed Manual Transmission.  This is a very Original 442 with what appears to be all of it's original drive-train. The engine compartment is nice and clean with the 260 V8 engine looking nice and clean with no apparent leaks or at least nothing that leaves a mess under the car. The engine, transmission and rear are all in good working order. The 260 engine runs very well and the 5 speed Transmission shifts easily with no grinding, no popping out of gear and no slipping or chatter with the clutch. The 5 Speed Shifter is the Original and it's complete with it's Original 5 Speed Shift Knob and the Original Green Consolette is still in place with it's original Black Rubber shift boot and original Chrome retainer ring.   The paint is nice driver quality paint with a few minor scratches & chips and a couple of minor door dings along with a couple of small bubbles around the rear glass.  The body appears to be in nice condition with good solid floors, trunk and frame.  The interior is completely original with the exception of the Carpets and sill plates which were replaced.  The Original Swivel Bucket Seats work as they should.  The Interior shows some wear as you would expect from any 38 year old car but it's complete and functional.  The car appears to have all of it's original options still in place or at least it has everything that's listed on the Original Broadcast Sheet.  This 442 drives nicely around town or down the highway and is fairly good on gas.  The 442 is a pleasure to drive on the highway and has that wonderful ride for which these cars are known.  The Power Steering & Power Disc Brakes both work as they should and the car steers nicely and stops every bit as well. The exterior headlights..high & low beams, parking lights, rear taillights, brakes lights, turn signals, all 4 side marker lights, license plate light, reverse lights, dash lights all work as they should while the factory Am-FM Radio, Dome Light, Heater Blow Motor are not working properly. I have another switch to replace the in Dash Blow Motor Switch and I have a replacement for the Drivers side Door dome light switch that needs replacing.  The AM-FM Radio lights up but I have not checked to see if the Antenna or Speakers are hooked up a prior owner had an aftermarket radio under the Dash at one time. This is like any 38 year old car in that there are always some little things that will need to be tended to and like most 38 year old cars there is always room for improvement. This is a good original Collector car and it will always have a following as a 442 but with it's super rare drive-train option it should always have a place in a good 442 collection.  The Lime Metallic with the White 442 lower body paint and large 442 call-outs on the Doors and the Trunk really make for one super cool car with great eye appeal and a very cool overall look!

Auction Terms & Shipping,  Pick Up, Delivery & Payment Options
The high bidder should contact me within 24 hours of the auctions end and the 442 should be paid for within 3 days of the auctions end without exception unless we have made other arrangements before the auction ends.  I will accept a deposit only with Paypal or you can make full payment by way of Bank Check, Personal Check, Bank Wire Transfer, Certified/Cashiers Check or good old Greenbacks but all payments must clear before the Olds 442 leaves my home.

The Buyer is responsible for the cost of Shipping but I would be happy to help with all shipping arrangements as I know several Reputable Insured Professional Classic Car Transporters. These guys can pick the car up directly from my home and deliver it to your front door at a very reasonable price.  Please email me for a shipping quote and I will be glad to get a quote for you. In most cases you can't beat the price of shipping a car over the price of driving that same car halfway across the country.  I have picked up a car in the Midwest and driven it back home without any problems but I have also picked a car up and driven it back from Minnesota only to be stuck in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday afternoon with a bad water-pump in my newly purchased 40 year old classic car.  The point being that you never know what might happen when your out on the open road in a 40 year old car.  If your only driving a few hours then most times it makes sense to go and pick the car up in person but if you buy a 40 year old car that's 16 hours away from your home then it's usually far less expensive and less stressful to have a professional transporter handle the job.  That's just my opinion and I would bet that most classic car guys would agree!    Whatever you decide is fine but if you need help with Shipping arrangements then just let me know and I will gladly help!
I strongly suggest that come and see the car in person if your in the Philly PA area or your welcome to have somebody come out and look the car over for you just as long as it's before the end of the auction.  If your unable to come and see the car in person then I suggest you try one of the many Classic Car Inspection Services who can send one of their Classic Car Inspectors out to come and check the car out for you. This is a great way of getting a little peace of mind without spending a lot of money. These guys will come out and check the car out for you and they will go over the whole car and photograph the car for you and then send you a full report by way of email.  This is one way to get a unbiased opinion along with photos of the car from a third party who is working for you.   This is just something to consider if you have no way of checking the car out before the auction ends.  I only mention this because I have purchased my share of Classic cars sight unseen and it can be a very nerve wracking experience to say the least.  One guys idea of what makes a car "a nice car" can be completely different than another guys so please do your best to either come and see the car in person or have someone come and look the car over for you. If your not able to come and see the car or have somebody come and inspect the car for you then please feel free to call me or email me with any questions or concerns that you might have.  I will do my best to answer your questions as quickly as possible. If you need more pictures then just let me know what you would like to see and I will take the pictures that you need and email them to you or add them to the auction.  Please call me with specific questions at 215-499-2693         Please check my Feedback and you will see that I have been an Ebay Trader for the last 13+ years with over 2,200 Ebay Transactions and I take great pride in my 100% Feedback Rating!   I have bought and sold on ebay for many years and for the most part, I have enjoyed the whole ebay experience.  If you check my Feedback then you'll see that I go to great length to make sure that all of my Ebay Transactions are good ones for both the buyer & seller no matter which end of the deal that I'm on.   I have been on both sides of the ebay experience so there isn't much that I haven't seen in the last 13+ years.  As far as the auction goes, well it takes quite a bit of time and patience to write an auction that covers everything that a potential buyer wants to see or wants to know about a classic car so I try my best to give as much information as possible.  Please take this auction as seriously as I do and I will do my best to help you through the whole bidding or buying experience.  I ask that only serious buyers bid on this auction as I am running this auction at NO RESERVE .... THE HIGH BIDDER AT THE END OF THE AUCTION WILL BE THE NEXT OWNER / CARETAKER OF THIS SUPER RARE 1976 OLDSMOBILE 442 WITH IT'S FACTORY ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING 260 V8 ENGINE AND 5 SPEED BORG WARNER MANUAL TRANSMISSION.   CHANCES OF FINDING ANOTHER 442 LIKE THIS ARE SLIM TO NONE SO IF YOUR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED IN OWNING THIS CAR THEN FEEL FREE TO BID OR CALL TONY 215-499-2693 WITH ANY QUESTIONS.     PLEASE CALL TONY 215-499-2693 WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS!  I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THIS AUCTION AT ANYTIME AND FOR ANY REASON WITHOUT NOTICE SO IF YOUR SERIOUS ABOUT THIS 442 THEN CALL TONY 215-499-2693 AND WE CAN DISCUSS THE CAR..... THE HIGH BIDDER WINS THIS NO RESERVE AUCTION.    THANKS FOR LOOKING!   TONY 215-499-2693   TONY 215-499-2693  THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!
Above: The Front and Passenger of the 1976 Olds 442 show nicely!  The Cutlass S & 442 models received a completely redesigned frontend for 1976 with a more aerodynamic look from the front header panel & grills to the new Quad rectangular shaped headlights which replaced the old round single headlight design. This exceptionally cool frontend was used for this one year only and was only available on the Cutlass S and 442 Models.  I think it's one of the more stylish designs ever to be offered on any Cutlass or 442 Models. The 1976 Olds 442 is painted in one of my favorite colors or the era, Lime Metallic and it looks awesome against the factory White 442 Stripe Package & White Swivel Bucket Seat interior!
ABOVE: The 1976 Olds 442 shown from the drivers side front. This 1976 Olds 442 shows nicely with it's Cutlass S/442 only sloped-back frontend which is one of the things that I really like about this year 442.  As you can see in the pictures, the car is an attractive original 442 with all of it's exterior lights working exactly as they should from the Parking Lights to the Side Marker Lights and more..... literally every exterior light is in perfect working order.  This 1976 Olds 442 looks awesome in it's original Code "40" Lime Metallic Paint with it's White 442 Stripe Package. The Original 15 x 7" Rally Wheels are very nice and they look great wearing a set of 4 Brand New BF Goodrich 225/70-R15 Raised White Letter Tires. The Tires have less than 250 miles since they were installed and have like new tread and the white letters are beautiful.
Above: The 1976 Olds 442's original 5 Speed Shifter and Original 5 Speed Shift Knob... Original Green Consolette and Original Faux Leather Shift Boot.... something you won't see often

ABOVE: THE 442 DRIVERS SIDE FRONT AND SIDE SHOWS THE NICE LINES AND COOL NEW AERODYNAMIC FRONTEND!
ABOVE: THIS DRIVERS SIDE PHOTO SHOWS THE NICE LINES OF THE 442 WITH IT'S COOL TRIANGULAR SHAPED QUARTER GLASS AND SWEEPING ROOFLINE AND REAR WINDOW.

ABOVE: THE 442 PARKING LIGHTS AND SIDE MARKER LIGHTS ARE ALL IN PROPER WORKING CONDITION.
THE COOL NEW FRONTEND HAS A GREAT LOOK AND IS UNIQUE COMPARED TO 442's BUILT PRIOR TO 1976.
ABOVE: THE LIME METALLIC PAINT LOOKS NICE WITH THE WHITE 442 STRIPE PACKAGE AND THE ORIGINAL BODY COLOR 15" RALLY WHEELS LOOK VERY COOL WITH ORIGINAL TRIM RINGS, CENTER CAPS AND THE NEW RAISED WHITE LETTER BF GOODRICH T/A RADIAL TIRES.
ABOVE: THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR SHOWS THE COOL ROOFLINE AND THOSE AWESOME TRIANGULAR SHAPED QUARTER WINDOWS... JUST A COOL CAR FROM EVERY ANGLE!
ABOVE: THE REAR OF THE 442 SHOWS THE STRAIGHT REAR BUMPER WITH THE BLACK RUBBER BUMPER STRIP AND BOTH TAILLIGHTS WORKING!

ABOVE: THE WHITE 442 STRIPING REALLY JUMPS OUT AGAINST THE LIME METALLIC PAINT
ABOVE: THE 442 HAS A NICE CLEAN ORIGINAL APPEARANCE OVERALL AND THE COOL LIME METALLIC PAINT WITH THE WHITE 442 STRIPES ALONG WITH THE WHITE BUCKET SEAT INTERIOR MAKE FOR ONE SUPER COOL COLOR COMBINATION.
ABOVE: THIS PICTURE SHOWS THE LEFT SIDE NICELY AND AS YOU CAN SEE THE CAR HAS A GOOD CLEAN LOOK FRONT FRONT TO REAR
ABOVE: THE 442 WITH IT'S LARGE REAR WINDOW AND THE LARGE TRIANGULAR SHAPED QUARTER WINDOWS MAKE IT EASIER TO SEE OUT OF THE REAR AS COMPARED TO SOME OF THE OTHER OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS MODELS THAT WERE OFFERED FOR 1976. THE CUTLASS SUPREME AND BROUGHAM MODELS HAVE THE SMALLER QUARTER WINDOWS AND A SMALLER REAR WINDOW.  IT'S AMAZING THAT OLDSMOBILE WENT TO SO MUCH TROUBLE TO MAKE THE CUTLASS S AND 442 MODELS SO DIFFERENT THAN OTHER CUTLASS MODELS. THE FRONTEND ON THE CUTLASS S & 442 MODELS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN THE CUTLASS SUPREME AND THE SAME GOES FOR THE REAR...JUST A VERY DIFFERENT CAR!
ABOVE: THE REAR OF THE 1976 OLDSMOBILE 442 SHOWS NICELY WITH THE STRAIGHT REAR BUMPER WITH IT'S RUBBER BUMPER STRIP AND THE ORIGINAL REVERSE LIGHTS MOUNTED ON EACH SIDE OF THE LICENSE PLATE
ABOVE: THE REAR OF THE 442 WITH THE WORKING TAILLIGHTS, WORKING LICENSE PLATE LIGHT AND WORKING REVERSE LIGHTS!!!   THE CAR WAS SITTING WITH THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION WITH THE 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION IN THE REVERSE POSITION TO SHOW THAT THE REVERSE LIGHTS WERE STILL FUNCTIONING PROPERLY.  WORKING REVERSE LIGHTS IS NOT SOMETHING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT WITH MOST CARS BUT I HAVE FOUND THAT MANY OLD MUSCLE CARS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS OFTEN HAVE NON FUNCTIONAL REVERSE LIGHTS. THIS IS JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT MANY YOUNG GUYS NEVER BOTHERED TO PLUG BACK IN WHEN THEY CHANGED A CLUTCH OR THE REVERSE LIGHT HARNESS CAN BE MISSING ALL TOGETHER.  NOT THE CASE WITH THIS 442 WITH IT'S 5 SPEED MANUAL BORG WARNER STICK!!!
ABOVE: THE COOL SLOPED BACK NEW GRILL FOR THE 1976 OLDS 442 WITH THE QUAD RECTANGULAR HEADLIGHTS REALLY GIVE THIS 442 A GREAT LOOK!  THE FRONT BUMPER IS ORIGINAL AND STILL HAS IT'S ORIGINAL BLACK RUBBER BUMPER STRIP. THE VINTAGE STYLE OLDS 442 LICENSE PLATE ON THE FRONT JUST BRIGHTENS THE FRONT UP A BIT.  THE GRILLS, BUMPER AND HEADLIGHT BEZELS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE.
ABOVE: THIS PICTURE GIVES A GOOD OVERVIEW OF THE 442 AND THE LIME METALLIC PAINT.... JUST A GREAT LOOKING ORIGINAL CAR!
ABOVE: JUST LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIME METALLIC PAINT WITH JUST A LITTLE NATURAL SUNLIGHT PEAKING THROUGH THE CLOUDS ON THIS OVERCAST DAY.  THE LIME METALLIC LOOKS STUNNING IN STRAIGHT NATURAL SUNLIGHT AS YOU WILL SEE IN A COUPLE OF THE PICTURES THAT I WAS ABLE TO TAKE WHILE I HAD SOME NICE BRIGHT SUNLIGHT...... THE PAINT IS ACTUALLY A LITTLE BRIGHTER THAN SHOWN HERE ALTHOUGH THIS IS A FAIRLY GOOD REPRESENTATION. THIS PICTURE SHOWS THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WITH THE COOL SLANT OF THE FACTORY GRILLS WHICH ARE SPECIFIC TO THE CUTLASS S AND THE "W29" OLDS 442 PACKAGE CARS AND THE QUAD RECTANGULAR HEADLIGHTS WERE NEW FOR 1976.  THE FRONT-END OF THE 1976 OLDS 442 IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN CUTLASS SUPREME MODELS AS IS THE REAR BODY DESIGN WITH IT'S FASTBACK STYLED REAR WINDOW AND AWESOME TRIANGULAR SHAPED REAR QUARTER WINDOWS AND EVEN THE TAILLIGHTS ARE UNIQUE TO THE CUTLASS S OPTIONED 442 MODELS.  BY THE WAY, THERE IS A REFLECTION ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND QUARTER PANEL IN THIS PICTURES WHICH LOOKS LIKE A CREASE OR A DENT BUT I ASSURE YOU THAT THIS IS NOTHING MORE THAN A REFLECTION ..... I DON'T BELIEVE THERE ARE ANY DENTS ON THE BODY OF THIS 442 ALTHOUGH THERE MIGHT BE A COUPLE OF VERY MINOR DOOR DINGS.   IT'S A NICE EXAMPLE OF A VERY RARE 1976 OLDS 442 IN BEAUTIFUL LIME METALLIC WITH WHITE STRIPES!

ABOVE: THE DRIVERS SIDE SWIVEL STRATO BUCKET SEAT TURNED OUT JUST TO SHOW THAT THE SEAT FUNCTIONS PROPERLY. THIS IS A GREAT DESIGN AND I'M SURPRISED THAT THIS DIDN'T GO OVER WITH OTHER MANUFACTURERS AS IT DID WITH THE GM CARS FROM 1973-1977... ALWAYS LIKED THE DESIGN AND IN SOME CASES, THESE SEATS ACTUALLY MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR SOME PEOPLE TO GET INTO THESE CARS THAT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET IN OR OUT OF THE CAR WITHOUT THE SWIVEL SEAT OPTION..... VERY COOL & AHEAD OF IT'S TIME@
ABOVE: THE DRIVERS SIDE SHOWS THE ORIGINAL SWIVEL BUCKET SEATS ALONG WITH THE NEW GREEN CARPETS, 4 SPOKE OLDS SPORT STEERING WHEEL, ORIGINAL GREEN SHOULDER BELTS

ABOVE: THE PASSENGER SIDE STRATO BUCKET SEAT HAS THE SWIVEL OPTION WHICH ALLOWS FOR EASY ENTRY AND EXIT FROM THE 442. THIS IS A TRULY UNIQUE OPTION AND IF YOU'VE NEVER OWNED A 1973-1977 OLDSMOBILE OR ONE OF THE OTHER MID 70's GM MUSCLE CARS WITH THE SWIVEL BUCKET SEAT OPTION THEN YOUR IN FOR A REAL TREAT. THESE SEATS ARE NOT ONLY EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE BUT THEY ALSO MAKE IT VERY EASY FOR ANYONE TO GET INTO AND OUT OF THE CAR.  IT'S JUST A COOL OPTION AND A GREAT DESIGN IN MY OPINION. THESE SEATS ARE ESPECIALLY HELPFUL IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE GETTING INTO OR OUT OF A CAR BECAUSE OF A HEALTH ISSUE OR BECAUSE OF SOME OTHER PHYSICAL LIMITATION... THEY ARE WONDERFUL IN THAT REGARD AND AS I SAID EARLIER, THESE SEATS ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE.  THE DRIVERS SEAT WORKS EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. IT'S AS SIMPLE AS PULLING THE HANDLE ON THE SIDE OF THE SEAT AND YOUR ROTATING TO THE POSITION THAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU AND ALL THE WHILE YOU CAN ADJUST THE SEAT FORWARD OR BACK FROM A SEPARATE HANDLE FOUND ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THE SEAT FRAME THAT FACES THE DASH.   NOTICE THE LOWER SEAT FRAME HARD PLASTIC COVERS THAT ARE INTERIOR TRIM COLOR.... IN THIS CASE THEY ARE GREEN OR THE SAME GREEN AS FOUND ON THE KICK PANELS, DASH, SEAT-BELTS AND CONSOLE.    NOTICE THE NEW SILL PLATES ARE STILL NICE AND SHINY AND THEY HAVE THE FISHER BODY EMBLEM IN THE MIDDLE!

ABOVE: A GOOD SHOT OF THE 4 SPOKE OLDS SPORT STEERING WHEEL AND THE FACTORY 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND THE ORIGINAL AM-FM STEREO IN THE DASH
ABOVE: THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHOWS THE SPEEDOMETER AT 68 MPH.  IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TAKE THIS PICTURE AS I WAS CRUISING ALONG.  I WAS TRYING TO GET A PHOTO OF THE SPEEDOMETER WHILE I WAS CRUISING ALONG AT 80+ MPH BUT I WAS RUNNING INTO SOME HEAVY TRAFFIC AHEAD AND DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT SO THIS WILL HAVE TO DO!  IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY, YOU'LL SEE THE CARS UP AHEAD WITH THEIR BRAKE LIGHTS ON AS TRAFFIC WAS COMING TO A HALT RATHER QUICKLY.
ABOVE: AS YOU CAN SEE I LOST MY MOMENTUM AS TRAFFIC STARTED TO GET HEAVY AND I QUICKLY SLOWED DOWN TO THE LEGAL SPEED LIMIT OF 55 MPH...... PROBABLY A GOOD IDEA TO SLOW IT DOWN AS IT WASN'T SUCH A GOOD IDEA TO DRIVE THE CAR OVER 80 MPH JUST TO TRY TO TAKE A PICTURE!
ABOVE: NICE PICTURE THAT SHOWS THE DASH ALONG WITH THE FACTORY 5 SPEED SHIFTER WITH THE GREEN CONSOLETTE AND THE NICE ORIGINAL 4 SPOKE SPORT STEERING WHEEL. THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING IN THIS PICTURE BUT THE KEY WAS IN THE ON POSITION WHICH LIGHTS THE DASH LIGHTS FOR THE OIL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE IDIOT LIGHTS
ABOVE: THE ORIGINAL 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WITH THE ORIGINAL 5 SPEED SHIFT KNOB AND TO THE LEFT IN THE DASH IS THE ORIGINAL AM-FM STEREO

ABOVE: THE ORIGINAL GREEN CONSOLETTE WHICH HOUSES THE ORIGINAL FACTORY 5 SPEED SHIFTER WITH IT'S ORIGINAL 5 SPEED SHIFT KNOB ALONG WITH THE BLACK FAUX LEATHER(RUBBER) SHIFT BOOT AND THE CHROME RETAINING RING ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE BOOT... ALL IN GOOD ORIGINAL CONDITION WITH THE SHIFTER WORKING EXACTLY AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED AND GOES THROUGH ALL OF THE GEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!!!

ABOVE: THE REAR SEAT COULD USE A LITTLE MORE CLEANING BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY SPLIT SEAMS OR RIPS... NICE ORIGINAL!
ABOVE: THE REAR SEAT AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR INTERIOR PANEL SHOWS NICELY
ABOVE: THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE REAR SEAT AND THE REAR INTERIOR PANEL SHOW NICELY
ABOVE: THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR PANEL COULD STAND SOME CLEANING AND DYING OR PAINTING THE DOOR PANEL TO FRESHEN IT WOULDN'T BE A BAD IDEA... THESE DOOR PANELS START TO GET CHALKY FROM THE MANY YEARS OR TEMPERATURE CHANGES AND SUN.... STILL THE ORIGINAL PANEL AND IT FUNCTIONS JUST THE WAY IT SHOULD....WINDOWS ROLL UP AND DOWN AND DOORS LOCK WITH THE KEYS!
ABOVE: THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR PANEL COULD USE SOME CLEANING AND THERE IS SOME WEAR IN THE WHITE PLASTIC FROM THE YEARS OF EXPOSURE TO THE SUN AND WEATHER AND TEMPERATURE CHANGES......THIS WILL CLEAN UP JUST FINE WITH A LITTLE TIME AND LOOKS FINE AS IT IS BUT I WOULD CONSIDER A LITTLE VINYL DYE OR VINYL PAINT TO MAKE THEM NICE AND BRIGHT. THE PLASTIC LOCK PULL OR BUTTON WAS OFF IN THIS PICTURE AND HAS SINCE BEEN INSTALLED...... THESE ORIGINAL DOOR PANELS ALWAYS DETERIORATED FROM THE SUN AND IT WON'T TAKE MUCH TO MAKE THEM MUCH CLEANER IN APPEARANCE
ABOVE: THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS RATHER SPARTAN WITH LITTLE IN THE WAY OF POWER ROBBING ACCESSORIES ON THE 260 V8 OLDSMOBILE ENGINE.... THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HAS IT'S ORIGINAL PLASTIC INNER FENDER LINERS AND EVERYTHING HERE APPEARS TO BE FACTORY ORIGINAL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HOOKER HEADERS WHICH YOU CAN'T REALLY SEE.
ABOVE: STRAIGHT ON PICTURE OF THE OLDS 442'S ENGINE COMPARTMENT WITH THE 260 CUBIC INCH V8 ENGINE LOOKING NICE & CLEAN!
ABOVE: DRIVERS SIDE OF THE OLDS V8 ENGINE SHOWS NICELY.....REAL EASY ENGINE TO WORK ON AS THERE ARE VERY FEW THINGS IN YOUR WAY....NO AIR CONDITIONING TO DEAL WITH AND NO CRUISE CONTROL....JUST ABOUT AS SIMPLE AS IT GETS... ALL VERY CLEAN!
ABOVE: THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE OLDSMOBILE 260 V8 ENGINE WITH NOTHING TO STOP EVEN THE NOT SO MECHANICALLY INCLINED CAR GUY FROM WORKING ON THIS CAR....EASY ACCESS TO EVERYTHING AND ALL IS CLEAN. THESE ENGINES ARE EXTREMELY RELIABLE AND VERY EFFICIENT .... THE OLDS 260 V8 WAS NOT KNOWN SO MUCH AS A POWERHOUSE BUT IT WAS KNOWN AS AN EXTREMELY RELIABLE AND SMOOTH RUNNING ENGINE THAT GOT GOOD GAS MILEAGE..... COMBINED WITH THE RARE 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND THE HIGHWAY GEARS, THIS CAR WILL GET GREAT GAS MILEAGE WHILE FILLING YOUR NEED FOR A RARE AND UNUSUAL CLASSIC MUSCLE CAR THAT HAS A VERY ATTRACTIVE LOOK AND A GREAT RIDE!
ABOVE: THE ORIGINAL EMISSIONS DECAL FOUND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE INNER FENDER SHOWS THE 260 CUBIC INCH ENGINE

ABOVE:  THE VIN NUMBER AS SEEN THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD.... I SHOULD HAVE CLEANED THE GLASS AND THE DASH BEFORE I TOOK THIS PICTURE BUT YOU GET THE IDEA... THE ORIGINAL VIN TAG IS IN IT'S FACTORY INSTALLED LOCATION AND READS " 3G37F6M387693

ABOVE: THE COWL TAG SHOWS THE "04D" OR 4TH WEEK OR APRIL 1976 PRODUCTION OR AS WE KNOW FROM THE BROADCAST SHEET THE CAR WAS BUILT ON APRIL 30, 1976..... THE "110" TRIM CODE FOR THE WHITE SWIVEL STRATO BUCKET SEAT INTERIOR AND THE "40 40U" PAINT CODES SHOW THE BODY AND ROOF IN LIME METALLIC PAINT.  NOTICE THE BODY NUMBER ACROSS THE TOP AFTER THE "LAN" FOR THE LANSING MICHIGAN ASSEMBLY PLANT ... THE BODY NUMBER IS "501795" AND THE SAME NUMBER CAN BE FOUND BELOW ON THE ORIGINAL BROADCAST SHEET WHICH SHOWS THE BODY NUMBER RIGHT ACROSS THE TOP MIDDLE OF THE FIRST LINE OF CODES.
ABOVE: THE ORIGINAL BROADCAST SHEET FOUND UNDER THE REAR SEAT SHOWS EVERYTHING FROM THE DATE OF PRODUCTION TO THE OPTION CODES, PAINT COLORS, INTERIOR COLOR AND EVEN THE SWIVEL BUCKET SEATS BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT CODE FOUND ON THIS BROADCAST SHEET IS THE "W29" FOUND IN THE SECOND ROW TO THE FAR RIGHT. THE "W29" SHOWS THAT THIS IS A REAL 1976 OLDS CUTLASS S WITH THE "442" PACKAGE.  THE "W29" IDENTIFIES THIS CAR AS HAVING THE 442 PACKAGE WHICH INCLUDED THE LOWER BODY STRIPES AND THE 442 CALL-OUTS ALONG WITH HEAVY DUTY SUSPENSION, HEAVY DUTY SHOCKS, HEAVY DUTY SPRINGS, , 15X7" RALLY WHEELS AND LARGER FRONT AND REAR SWAY BARS!     ANOTHER INTERESTING SERIES OF NUMBERS ON THE BROADCAST SHEET IS FOUND IN THE BOX BELOW BODY NUMBER WHICH SHOWS "501795" AND THESE NUMBERS CORRESPOND WITH THE BODY NUMBERS FOUND ON THE ORIGINAL COWL TAG!

ABOVE: ORIGINAL GM SEAT BELT OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS WHICH SLIDE ONTO THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR!
ABOVE: THIS IS THE GLOVEBOX DOOR OPEN AND IT SHOWS A DECAL THAT SAYS " NOTICE   Do not push or tow this vehicle to start. Damage to the Emission System may result."     I HAVE TO ASSUME THAT THIS WAS ONLY APPLIED TO CARS THAT WERE EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS... PRETTY COOL AND ANOTHER THING THAT I HAD NEVER SEEN ON A CLASSIC MUSCLE CAR UNTIL THIS 1976 OLDS 442 SAME ALONG!!!
ABOVE: THIS IS A LETTER THAT I FOUND ON THE INTERNET FROM A GENTLEMAN THAT CONTACTED THE OLDSMOBILE HISTORY CENTER BACK IN 1992 IN REFERENCE TO HIS 1976 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME WITH A 260 V8 AND A 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION.  THE KIND PEOPLE AT OLDSMOBILE WROTE BACK TO HIM WITH PRODUCTION FIGURES ON THE 1976 CUTLASS SUPREME.  ACCORDING TO THE LETTER, OLDSMOBILE PRODUCED 186,647 OF THE 1976 CUTLASS SUPREME HARDTOP COUPE MODELS AND OF THE 186,647 ONLY 562 WERE EQUIPPED WITH THE 260 V8 AND THE 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION.  THE PRODUCTION FIGURES FOR THE 1976 CUTLASS "S" COLONNADE COUPE IS 59,179 AND OF THOSE ONLY 9,576 WERE "442" MODELS.  I DON'T WHAT THE PRODUCTION FIGURES ARE FOR 1976 OLDS 442's EQUIPPED WITH THE 260 V8 AND THE 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION BUT I WOULD GUESS IT'S A VERY LOW NUMBER. IT THE 442's WITH A 260 V8 AND 5 SPEED ARE INCLUDED IN "562" SHOWN IN THE LETTER FROM THE OLDSMOBILE HISTORY CENTER THAN JUST 0.22% OF THE TOTAL OF 245,000+ OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME AND CUTLASS "S" MODELS WOULD HAVE THE 260 ENGINE AND A 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION.... THAT'S JUST 0.22% ...THESE NUMBERS ARE INCREDIBLY LOW FOR ANY CAR AND FAR LOWER THAN I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT.  I KNOW THAT I HAVE SEEN A TOTAL OF "3" 1976 OLDS CUTLASS S MODELS AND "2" 1976 OLDS 442's OVER THE LAST 10+ YEARS WITH THE 260 AND THE 5 SPEED!   IF YOU TAKE THE SAME PERCENTAGE OF 1976 OLDS CUTLASS MODELS WITH THE 260 V8 ENGINE AND 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND APPLY THAT TO THE NUMBERS OF 442'S BUILT WHICH IS 9,576 THEN THAT WOULD MAKE THE NUMBER OF 1976 OLDS 442 WITH THE 260 V8 & 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION TO BE APPROXIMATELY "30" CARS!    IS THAT A FEASIBLE NUMBER?  ABSOLUTELY BUT I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE SO I'LL JUST LEAVE IT ALONE.    I CAN'T BE SURE AS TO THE ACCURACY OF THE PRODUCTION NUMBERS ON THESE 260 V8, FACTORY 5 SPEED CUTLASS S & 442's BUT REST ASSURED IT'S A RARE CAR!

ABOVE: THIS IS A PAGE OUT OF THE 1976 OLDSMOBILE SALES LITERATURE THAT SHOWS THE INTERIOR OF A CUTLASS S MODEL IN THE SAME WHITE & GREEN AS THE 442 THAT I HAVE FOR AUCTION AND THE LOWER SECTION SHOWS A BLUE & WHITE 442 AND TO THE RIGHT YOU CAN SEE THE FACTORY 5 SPEED SHIFTER KNOB..... NOTICE THE NOTES TO THE LOWER RIGHT AS THEY MENTION THE CUTLASS S WITH AVAILABLE 442 PACKAGE WHICH INCLUDES THE PAINT STRIPES, 442 DECALS, FE2 RALLY SUSPENSION AND MORE. THE 442 CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE "W29" FOUND ON THE BROADCAST SHEET.  I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT THAT THIS LIME METALLIC OLDS 442 WAS AUTHENTIC WHEN I PURCHASED IT BUT IT' WAS A PLEASANT SURPRISE TO FIND THAT BROADCAST SHEET AND IT WAS ONLY FOUND BECAUSE I WAS INSTALLING NEW CARPETS.
ABOVE: THE PICTURE ABOVE IS OUT OF THE 1976 OLDSMOBILE SALES LITERATURE AND IT SHOWS A NEW CUTLASS S MODEL IN THE SAME LIME METALLIC PAINT AND A WHITE INTERIOR. THESE CARS HAVE A VERY COOL FRONT-END AND YOU GOTTA LOVE THOSE OLDS RALLY WHEELS. THE LIME METALLIC / CODE "40" PAINT IS A GREAT COLOR AND WORKS REALLY WELL WITH THE 442 STRIPE PACKAGE AND WHITE INTERIOR!

ABOVE: THE FRONT COVER OF THE 1976 OLDSMOBILE SALES BROCHURE THAT SHOWS THE CUTLASS, OMEGA AND STARFIRE MODELS. NOTICE THE CAR UP FRONT IS A 76 CUTLASS SUPREME AND THE CAR RIGHT BEHIND IT IS A 76 CUTLASS S MODEL.  YOU CAN SEE THE MANY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THESE 2 MODELS JUST IN THESE PICTURES FROM THE ROOF-LINE TO THE REAR QUARTER WINDOWS TO THE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FRONT-ENDS.  THE CUTLASS S BASED 442 MODELS ARE FAR MORE APPEALING IN MY OPINION .... DON'T GET ME WRONG, I LIKE THE CUTLASS SUPREME AS WELL BUT I JUST LOVE THOSE TRIANGULAR SHAPED QUARTER WINDOWS AND THE BIG REAR WINDOW AND ROOF-LINE WITH IT'S FASTBACK STYLING AND THE NEW FRONT-END ON THE CUTLASS S/442 MODELS IS JUST SUPER COOL!

ABOVE: ANOTHER PAGE FROM THE 1976 OLDSMOBILE SALES BROCHURE THAT SHOWS OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES. THIS SHOWS EVERYTHING FROM THE OPTIONAL HATCH ROOF/T-TOPS ON CUTLASS SUPREME, BROUGHAM AND CUTLASS SALON MODELS TO THE "SPACE SAVER" SPARE TIRE AND THE OPTIONAL 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION, TILT STEERING WHEEL,RADIO OPTIONS SUCH AS THE AM-FM STEREO RADIO SHOWN TO THE STEREO TAPE PLAYER RADIOS, COOL LITTLE ECONOMY METER(VACUUM GAUGE) AND THE MANY WHEEL COVER AND MAG STYLE RALLY WHEELS THAT WERE OFFERED ON VARIOUS 1976 OLDSMOBILE MODELS!
ABOVE: THE VARIOUS OLDSMOBILE MODELS SHOWN IN ALL BODY CONFIGURATIONS FROM THE CUTLASS TO THE OMEGA, STARFIRE GT, DELTA 88, 98 REGENCY AND SO ON ..... I WAS KIND OF SURPRISED THAT OLDSMOBILE DID NOT SHOW A 442 MODEL BUT I FIGURE THAT MIGHT BE BECAUSE OF THE 442 BEING AN OPTIONAL PACKAGE ON THE CUTLASS S MODEL.... NOTICE THE MANY COOL PAINT CHOICES FOR 1976 WHICH INCLUDE THE COOL LIME METALLIC .... THE ORIGINAL COLOR OF THE 442!    I REALLY LIKE THE RED-ORANGE SHOWN ON THE FAR RIGHT. IT WAS ONLY AVAILABLE ON THE 1976 OMEGA AND STARFIRE MODELS. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A COOL COLOR FOR THE 442 MODELS IN MY OPINION BUT I'VE ALWAYS LIKED PAINT COLORS THAT WERE A BIT UNUSUAL AND THE SAME CAN BE SAID ABOUT MY TASTE IN CARS, A BUT UNUSUAL!

ABOVE: THIS IS A GOOD PHOTO SHOWING THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR OF THE OLDS 442.  THIS GIVES YOU A GREAT LOOK AT THAT COOL SWEEPING ROOF-LINE AND THE CUTLASS S/442 ONLY COLONNADE TRIANGULAR SHAPED QUARTER WINDOWS AND LARGE FASTBACK STYLE REAR GLASS.

ABOVE: WORKING DASH LIGHTS, WORKING SPEEDOMETER ALTHOUGH A LOUSY PICTURE AND WORKING GAS GAUGE... SORRY ABOUT THE CRAPPY PICTURE GUYS BUT I WAS DRIVING UPWARDS OF 80 MPH WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TAKE THIS PICTURE AND BY THE TIME THAT I FELT SAFE ENOUGH TO TAKE THE PICTURE, TRAFFIC WAS SLOWING DOWN AHEAD AND I WAS DOWN TO THE ACTUAL SPEED LIMIT, LOL LOL ...... OH WELL, I HAD TO TRY!
ABOVE: THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL AND THE REAR WHEEL. THE LOWER QUARTERS HAVE NICE CRISP FACTORY WELDS ALONG THE BOTTOM AS YOU WILL SEE IN THE NEXT PHOTO.
ABOVE: THE DRIVERS SIDE LOWER QUARTER PANELS STILL HAVE THE FACTORY WELDS IN PLACE AND HAVE NICE CRISP LOWER LINES.  THERE IS NO RUST SHOWING HERE ALTHOUGH THERE IS A LITTLE DIRT ON THE VERY LOWER LIP WHICH COULD BE CLEANED OFF OR WAXED...NICE CRISP ORIGINAL LOWER QUARTERS
ABOVE: THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL BEHIND THE REAR WHEEL.  YOU CAN SEE THE NICE ORIGINAL LOWER LIP ON THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE QUARTER PANEL.... NICE CRISP FACTORY WELDS THAT LOOK NICE AND SOLID!!!  NOTICE THE WORKING MARKER LIGHT!
ABOVE: THE LOWER SECTION OF THE PASSENGER SIDE QUARTER PANEL SHOWS NICE CRISP FACTORY WELD... NOT ALL RUSTED AWAY LIKE SO MANY OF THESE CARS....THIS IS WHY I TOOK THESE PHOTOS.... JUST WANTED THE GUYS THAT KNOW WHAT THEIR LOOKING AT TO SEE THE NICE ORIGINAL FACTORY WELDS ON THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE QUARTERS BEHIND THE REAR WHEELS.
ABOVE: THE DRIVERS SIDE TRIANGULAR SHAPED QUARTER WINDOWS WITH THEIR PLASTIC CHROME PLATED TRIM. THIS TRIM IS VERY PLIABLE PLASTIC AND OFTEN COMES LOOSE ON THESE CARS. NOTICE THE LITTLE BUBBLE STARTING IN THE REAR CORNER BEHIND THE PLASTIC TRIM. THIS IS MINOR STUFF BUT IT'S THERE AND I WANTED TO POINT IT OUT!  THIS IS VERY COMMON ON THIS BODY STYLE
ABOVE: THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR QUARTER WINDOW WITH IT'S CHROME PLATED PLASTIC MOLDING. THESE MOLDINGS OFTEN FALL OFF OF THESE CARS OR ARE BROKEN... NOT THE CASE ON THIS CAR ALTHOUGH THEY COULD BE PLACED MORE APPROPRIATELY AS THEY ARE PLIABLE AND WILL MOVE AROUND WHEN YOU WASH THE CAR.....NOTHING A LITTLE DAB OF SILICON WON'T STRAIGHTEN OUT
ABOVE: THIS IS THE REAR OF THE PASSENGER SIDE QUARTER WINDOW WHERE A SMALL BUBBLE HAS SHOWN ITSELF... VERY COMMON ON THESE CARS AND ALL OF THE 1973-1977 GM "A" BODY CARS FOR THAT MATTER.... IT WAS A WEAK SPOT AND THIS CAR SHOWS SMALL BUBBLES
ABOVE: THE REAR CORNER OF THE PASSENGER SIDE BEHIND THE REAR WINDOW...NICE AND CLEAN WITH NO BUBBLES & ORIGINAL WINDOW TRIM IS STILL VERY NICE
ABOVE : THE FLOOR PANS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE STILL SHOW SOME OF THE FACTORY PRIMER AND THE LIME METALLIC PAINT... NICE AND SOLID OVERALL AND NEVER UNDERCOATED. YOU COULD LEAVE THE FLOOR PANS ALONE OR CLEAN THEM UP AND PAINT THEM.  I'D JUST LEAVE THEM AS THEY ARE AS THEY ARE GOOD ORIGINALS
ABOVE:MORE OF THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR PANS... BELIEVE THIS IS TOWARDS THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR PANS...NOTICE THE NEW EXHAUST PIPES AND MUFFLERS.... CONSIDERING IT'S NEVER HAD ANY RESTORATION, THIS CAR IS QUITE SOLID AND CLEAN OVERALL

ABOVE: THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PANS TOWARD THE REAR SHOWS EVERYTHING IS NICE AND SOLID...FACTORY LIME PAINT & ORIGINAL GRAY PRIMER CAN BE SEEN THROUGHOUT THE UNDERCARRIAGE. THERE ARE SOME AREAS THAT SHOW SURFACE RUST BUT IT'S STUFF THAT WOULD CLEAN UP EASILY WITH A WIRE BRUSH OR EVEN A PIECE OF LIGHT SANDPAPER .... I WOULD LEAVE IT ALONE.. IT'S ORIGINAL & SOLID
ABOVE: THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PANS AS SHOWN IN FRONT OF AND BEHIND THE CROSSMEMBER.   YOU CAN SEE THE FACTORY GRAY PRIMER ON THE FLOOR PANS AND THE FAIRLY NEW EXHAUST PIPES AND MUFFLERS CAN BE SEEN.  THIS IS A SOLID OLD CAR... NOT NEW OR FLAWLESS BUT A FAIRLY SOLID CAR CONSIDERING IT SPENT IT'S LIFE ON THE EAST COAST AND WITH NO UNDERCOATING IT'S HELD UP WELL.

On Oct-02-13 at 19:21:30 PDT, seller added the following information:

I just wanted to make sure that I went over some of the specifics of the 1976 Olds 442 again after receiving several phone calls about the car and after having someone come out to look the car over today.  This 1976 Olds 442 is a Documented Original "W29" car which means it's a True Real Deal 442 and not a Cutlass S with added stripes.  The guy that came and looked the car over spent over 30 minutes going over the car and said very little while he inspected just about every section of the car.  When he was done, he said that the 260 V8 engine and the 5 Speed Transmission were Original Matching Numbers which is exactly what I expected but it was nice to hear it from another car guy who seemed to be very Olds knowledgeable.  He also said that the 442 was pretty much as he expected it to be and that my description was good.  It was nice to have an Oldsmobile enthusiast check out the car although I believe he may have been inspecting the car for another potential Ebay bidder or another Olds enthusiast .   Now onto to addressing some of the questions that I received from the guys that called.  I thought I had covered most of their questions in the original listing but just for the sake of dotting my i's and crossing my t's, I thought I'd go over things again while adding more specific information in this revision.  Sometimes I wonder if people actually read these descriptions as many people seem to ask questions that were already addressed in the auction.  Well, either way, it's no big deal so let me start with the Original Olds 260 V8 engine and the Original Borg Warner 5 Speed Manual Transmission.  First off, the Olds 260 V8 engine is Original to the car as per the 5th digit of the Vin Number which is an "F" which designates the Olds 260 cubic inch V8 engine and the partial Vin Stamping was found on the engine as per the Olds guy that looked at the car and after looking at it very carefully myself, I was able to see the partial Vin Number also although it can be quite difficult to read, I assure you that it's there. The 5 Speed Borg Warner Speed Manual Transmission was only available in the 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass line when combined with the 260 V8.....otherwise the 5 Speed Transmission could not be ordered with any other available engine option.... only available with the 260 V8 in 1976!  The 5 Speed Manual Transmission is also Original to the car and is the Optional Transmission with the 260 V8. The Original Broadcast Sheet shows the 5 Speed Manual Transmission as Code "M75" / RPO or as  Regular Production Option for the 5 Speed Borg Warner Manual Transmission equipped Oldsmobile's for 1976.

1976 Code "M75"= 5 Speed Manual Transmission as can be seen below in box # 7
ABOVE: The Original Broadcast as found under the rear seat of the 1976 Olds 442 shows the "M75" option/5 Speed Manual Transmission & the "W29" which is the code for the 442! The Code W29 proves without any uncertainty that this 1976 Olds is a True 442. The W29 Package consisted of the 442 Appearance Package with the Bold Side Stripes with the large 442 Call-Outs on the Doors and on the Trunk Lid. The W29/442 also consisted of the "FE2" Performance Suspension Package which included Heavy Duty Springs, Firm Ride HD Shocks along along with Larger Front & Rear Sway Bars. I have not been able to determine if the 15x7" Rally Wheels were included with the "W29" Package or if they were Optional Equipment. Either way, this 442 has the big 15x7" Olds Rally Wheels in Lime Metallic & they are wearing New BF Goodrich Radial T/A Tires in P225/70R15 which are comparable to the Original Raised Letter Tires.

The 260 V8 runs very well and the 5 speed transmission shifts just as it should. The 260 V8 runs great with no unusual noises whatsoever...no ticks, no knocks and absolutely no smoke. It seems to perform exactly as it should and gets good gas mileage along the way. The gas mileage is actually quite good for a V8 Powered Muscle car and it can be attributed to the combination of the gas mileage oriented 260 V8 combined with the 5 Speed Manual Transmission & High Rear Gear Ratio of 2.56-1 or 2.73-1.  I have not confirmed the exact Rear Gear Ratio but the Rear Gears combined with the 5 Speed Transmissions final or 5th Gears final Ratio being just .80-1 which is a very effective final drive ratio when it comes to gas mileage. The 5th Gear in the Borg Warner 5 Speed Manual Transmission/RPO M75 in this 1976 Olds 442 is in fact Overdrive!  The Fuel efficient 260 cubic inch V8 combined with the 5 Speed & 2.56/2.73 gears make for a very efficient drive-train that not only gets good gas mileage but it's also a combination that can give the entire drive-train serious longevity as the engine runs at very low RPM's at Highway Speed or even around town unless your running it hard through the gears on a constant or regular basis.  The Olds 260 V8 engine is known for being a very smooth running V8 engine and also known for it's fuel efficiency, durability and reliability!   The 260 just runs great with no noises or smoke and the only complaint would be the choke as it just isn't working right or is in need of a simple adjustment. It's by no means a big deal but it's just one of those things that I find annoying and I'm hoping to have that adjusted and working properly before the auction ends. It's annoying but it never bothered me enough to adjust/repair it. It's probably because it never stopped me from driving the car or maybe I was just plain lazy.... either way, I will try to get that working properly before the auction ends. The previous owner told me that the Original Carburetor was rebuilt and although it performs fine for the most part, the choke seems to be a little finicky. It's not a big deal but it's something that bothers me just enough that I'm hoping to make the proper adjustments before the auction ends to get the choke to operating properly.  The engine starts easily and once it's brought up to proper operating temperature, the engine will start on the first turn of the key just about every time.  The 260 V8 engine is not going to set any land speed records in this 1976 Olds 442 Colonnade Coupe but it definitely makes plenty of power with the 5 Speed Manual Transmission to make the car a whole lot of fun to drive!  The 442 drives very well whether your just driving around town or cruising on down the Highway!  Both the engine and transmission appear to be completely original as delivered from the factory with the exception of the Hooker Headers which were installed by the previous owner.  I am not a big fan of Headers but in researching the Olds 260 V8,  everything that I've read from the owners of Cutlass Models powered the Olds 260 V8 claim that the addition of Headers is a good idea as it not only helps to expend spent exhaust gasses but the headers really help these engines to breath which in turn gives an immediate increase in Horsepower. Many of the guys also recommend the addition of an Edelbrock Aluminum 4 Barrel intake to help increase the overall performance.  Many owners of the 260 Olds V8 engines have added the Headers and the Aluminum 4 Barrel Intake along with an appropriate 4 Barrel Carburetor and it is said that these 2 additions make a big improvements in Performance and they still get good gas mileage. This 442 has the Hooker Headers as installed by the previous owner along with New Exhaust Pipes running from the Headers to the New Mufflers with small Pipes that exit the Mufflers just ahead of the Rear Axle.  As I said, I am not a big fan of Headers but if they add to the engines performance then I'm all for a performance upgrade to a Stock 260 V8.   I would recommend a pair of Tailpipes as they not only look much better in my opinion but they also help to quiet down the exhaust on Header equipped cars.  The engine performs as it should and the Transmission goes through all 5 Gears quite nicely. The 5 Speed Manual Transmission shifts easily and there are no noisy synchronizers, no popping out of gear.... no problems with the Transmission whatsoever.  The Clutch feels good with no slippage or chatter. The Original Factory installed 5 Speed Shifter works just fine and has it's original 5 Speed Shift Knob with the shift pattern across the top. The Original Rubber Shift Boot sits atop the Green mini Consolette with the Original Chrome Shifter Boot Retainer.... everything appears to be in good original condition and functions as it should. The Reverse Lights work when the Transmission is engaged in Reverse which is another cool thing about this car as many Manual Transmission cars seem to lose their Shifter Mounted Reverse Light Switch or they are simply disconnected and never installed again or worse yet, they get cut off and thrown away. That's not the case with this 442 as all of the cars exterior Lighting works as it should including the Reverse Lights.   The Electrical Components on the cars exterior are all working exactly as they should with the Headlights, High & Low Beams working properly. The Taillights & Parking Lights work correctly. The side marker lights on each Fender and on each Quarter Panel work properly.  The Brake Lights work. The Turn Signals work and cancel as they should when you return the steering wheel from your turn. The Original License Plate Light works just fine.  The 4 Way or Emergency Flashers work just fine. All exterior Lighting is working perfectly!   The Dash Lights are also working as are the Original Gas Gauge, Original Speedometer, Original Odometer and the Heater/Defroster work but the Blower Motor Switch is on it's way out as it stays on in the low position only which is a sure sign of the Blower Motor Switch going bad. The Radio, Rear Window Defroster don't seem to be working although the Lights on the Radio work. The car also needs the Door Switch on the Drivers side replaced which turns on the Dome Light although the Annoying Ignition Key Buzzer seems to work fine as do the under Dash Courtesy Lights. I think the Radio needs to have the Antenna and Speakers connected as the previous owner appears to have installed an aftermarket radio under the Dash at some point and I don't think the Radio Antenna/Speakers are connected. There are a couple of little things that you'll need to take a look at but this is just typical old car stuff.   The Interior is complete and the Original Strato Swivel Bucket Seats still swivel as they should. The Drivers side Bucket Seat does have a couple of seams that have split but it's not all that noticeable and the Seats need a good cleaning. They also appear to have some discoloration and would really benefit from a thorough cleaning. The Passenger side Bucket Seat is not ripped or torn but it also has some discoloration and needs a good cleaning. The Carpets were replaced and are new but the fit wasn't the greatest even though they were listed as the correct 1973-1977 GM "A" Body 4 Speed Carpets.  That's right, 4 speed and it's because they don't make a carpet set for 1973-1977 GM "A" Body 5 Speed cars because they simply didn't make enough of these 5 Speed cars to make it worth mentioning and the 4 & 5 Speed Carpet set should be the same.  The Carpets could have fit better.  The Door Panels have some chalking and deterioration which is very typical of this style Door Panels.  These Panels are just fine for a Driver and would definitely benefit from a good cleaning and some detailing... maybe even paint them with the correct interior vinyl paint or dye them.... like I said, they are fine for a Weekend Cruiser but I would replace them if your going the Show Car route.  The Rear Interior Side Panels are actually pretty nice although a little cleaning would be helpful. The Rear Seat just needs to be cleaned up a bit and it doesn't have any splits or rips.  The Rear Package Tray is just fine. The Dash Pad is not cracked but it does show some shrinkage. Now the shrinkage doesn't really affect anything as far as driveability goes and again it's just fine for a driver but it definitely needs some cleaning and if you wanted to take the 442 to show car specs then you might consider replacing it.  The car apparently spent a considerable amount of time parked in a former owners driveway where it's exposure to the sun and changing temperatures have taken their toll on some of the interior plastics.  The Instrument Cluster looks just fine as does the Original AM-FM Stereo with it's original knobs. The 4 Spoke Olds Sport Steering Wheel is still in pretty nice shape and is complete with it's Original Green Center Cap with the Olds Rocket emblem in plastic.. all original.   The 5 Speed Floor Consolette looks nice and the Interior Sill Plates are Brand New. The Front Kick Panels still have nice original color and they are not broken, cracked or damage. The Seat-Belts are in working order but with any seat-belts of this age, they have some discoloration to the webbing in places but overall, they are in pretty good shape other than needing to be cleaned. The little Plastic Guides that screw to the Bucket Seats which hold the Seat-Belts in place are often broken, cracked or missing but the Drivers side Seat-Belt to Seat Retainer is in good shape while the passenger side is cracked.....no big deal as they are readily available and they are cheap. Some of the White Interior plastic that surrounds the Windshield...in fact in runs around the perimeter of the Headliner and from the Dash to the Headliner/"A" Pillars.... some of these pieces show deterioration but the fronts "A" Pillar pieces are real nice and the long side pieces are good... the pieces that mount over the Shoulder Harness section that goes up into the Headliner are in Good shape.  I believe the pieces around the rear package tray are tired.  The Steering Column is in good shape with crisp Original Green Paint. There is no rust between the Dash Pad and the Windshield which can also be a problem with these cars... nice and clean on this Olds 442.    OK, now that I have torn into the interior making it sound like it's the worse, let me move onto the Body & Paint.  The Body on this 1976 Olds 442 is pretty solid and is a very attractive car in it's Lime Metallic Paint with it's White W29/442 Striping.  As I mentioned in the Original description, the Body is Nice and Solid overall with a little work done on the drop-offs or the backside of the rear quarters. The Outer section of the Lower Quarter Panels still show the nice original crisp factory weld and the bottoms look nice and sharp. Just check out the pictures of the lower quarter panels.  The Floors have never been undercoated and still show some of the original Gray Primer and some of the Lime Metallic overspray from the Factory.  I have taken pictures of the floor pans...they are very solid with the exception of a very small area up on the far left corner of the drivers side front floor pan that was repaired before the new carpets were installed.  The Trunk Pan looks nice and solid and the same goes for the lower lip of the Trunk Lid.  The Trunk Pan shows the Splatter Paint and I looked at the Trunk from the underside and everything looked nice and solid. The body as a whole is nice and solid although I'm sure there was some repair around the rear quarters... nothing that's showing any bubbles and nothing that looks terrible but I'm sure the car had some other repair work besides the work done on the backside of the lower quarter panels. This paint job and body work were likely done 10 years back and they show no bubbles on the quarters down low and no bubbling anywhere around the wheel lips. There are however those small bubbles that I pictured around the Triangular Shaped Quarter Windows and a couple of little spots behind the rear glass.  Absolutely nothing that looks like a serious problem and if this has held up after the 10 years or more since the car was painted then I think the repairs were nicely done.  Just a good 1976 Olds 442 with a super rare Color and Drive-Train Combination.    You are looking at a REAL DEAL DOCUMENTED ORIGINAL 1976 OLDS 442 WITH IT'S ORIGINAL MATCHING NUMBERS DRIVE-TRAIN AND IN AN AWESOME AND FAIRLY RARE COLOR COMBINATION!!!   Remember there were only 9,576 442's Built for 1976 and of those, my guesstimate is that possibly "30" of those cars were equipped with the 260 Olds V8 engine and the Borg Warner 5 Speed Manual Transmission.  The only Numbers as far as real "Documented" Production Numbers from Oldsmobile are the Numbers found in a letter from the Oldsmobile History Center dated September of 1992. In that Letter, Oldsmobile states that 186,647 Cutlass Supreme Hardtop Coupe Models were Produced and of those only "562" came with the 260 V8 and the 5 Speed Manual Transmission. That's a very low percentage of 1976 Cutlass Supreme's with the 260, 5 Speed Combination.  Take into consideration that just 59,179 Cutlass S Coupe's were Produced in 1976 and the 1976 Olds 442's were based on the 1976 Cutlass S platform.  When you add the 186,647 Cutlass Supreme's with the 59,179 Cutlass S Models, you have 245,826 Total 1976 Cutlass Supreme & Cutlass S Coupes produced. With just "562" 1976 Cutlass Supreme Coupe's built with the 260 engine & 5 Speed Transmission, it's just .22% of Cutlass Supreme Coupe Production or approximately 2 in every 1,000 Cutlass Supreme Coupe's built with the 260, 5 speed Combination.     If you take this formula and say that just 0.22% of the 9,576 Olds 442's in 1976 were built with the 260 Olds V8 engine and the 5 Speed Manual Transmission then less than "30" 1976 Oldsmobile 442 Models would have this very unusual and I dare to say RARE drive-train combination.   Take into consideration that it's been 38 years since these cars were Produced and then consider how many different color combinations were available and you have what is likely the only 1976 Olds 442 in Lime Metallic with the White Stripe Package and a White Swivel Bucket Seat Interior.  Who knows just how close these Numbers could be?   None of us but rest assured that this is likely the ONLY 1976 Olds 442 that any of us will ever see with the 260 engine & 5 Speed Transmission with Original Documentation and in an Outstanding Color Combination.  It's just a cool car and definitely a very unusual car!    It's a 38 year old car that's never seen a restoration but it's a good running car that pretty solid so its definitely worth the effort to do a little tinkering on some of the little things that need improvement.  It's a turnkey driver now but with any car this age, it could always use a few little things or go as far as you'd like with the car.  I just like it the way it is.... it runs and drives great and looks very cool.  I enjoy cruising it as it is and it's a real head-turner and is a great Cruise Night Cruiser just as she sits!   Thanks again for looking and feel free to email or call me with any questions. I just wanted to take a few minutes to thank all of the guys who have called and emailed me in reference to the 442!   I've enjoyed the conversations with the Oldsmobile diehards who are exceptionally brand loyal when it comes to their Muscle cars.  I have found that the Olds guys are not only brand loyal but also very knowledgeable when it comes to these cars. The guys that are into their 1973-1977 Cutlass/442 Models are very loyal and everyone that I've spoken to seems to have owned 4 or more of these 3rd generation Cutlass or 442's.  These guys are also super friendly and a pleasure to talk to.  Thank you all for the kind emails, interesting phone calls and especially for your bids guys..... it's been fun.      After speaking with a knowledgeable Oldsmobile enthusiast last night for nearly 2 hours, it seems as though the Lime Metallic Paint is fairly unusual in itself as he owned a Lime Metallic 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme back in the 80's and he said that he had only seen 3-4 Cutlass Models over the last 25+ years with the Lime Metallic paint.  Personally, I have only seen a couple of 1976 Oldsmobile's in the cool Lime Metallic paint over the last 35 years and I remember seeing just one Lime Metallic 1976 442 back the late 70's or early 80's and it was owned by a guy in my area.  I don't really remember anything else about that car other than it being a Lime Metallic 442 and that car struck me as beautiful even back then and here I am some 30+ years later and I still think the color is cool. As far as 1976 Oldsmobile 442's go, I would bet that there are very few around in the Lime Metallic paint with a White interior and as far as the 260 V8 & 5 speed manual transmission goes, well I doubt that you'll ever see another 1976 442 with this beautiful color combination & drive-train combination.  It's just a very unusual car!  I truly doubt that there were more than a few dozen 1976 Olds 442's built with the 260 engine and 5 Speed Borg Warner Manual Transmission and there might be a handful of these cars left.  I would bet that this could very well be a one of a kind 442 with the drive-train combination & color combinations.  I think I've covered everything else to the best of my ability. The Paint looks nice although it has some scratches and a few minor door dings.... nothing horrible and there are no dents or anything awful on the car.... just the usual stuff for a car that's been driven... little paint chips, a few scratches and a couple little door dings but again nothing that's offensive or anything that stands out.  The Body is solid with nice solid original floors and a trunk pan that looks nice, clean and solid. The car is 38 years old and it's never been undercoated so I would say that this 442 has held up fairly well over the last 4 decades.  It's not a perfect car and it's never been restored.  It did have patch panels put in on the lower drop-offs or the backside of the rear quarters and I believe there was some repair work done around the rear wheels....nothing hideous or anything that you'd even notice unless you spend some time looking the car over carefully. The car looks nice for a weekend cruiser and is actually far more attractive that my current weekend cruiser which happens to be a Vintage Wagon. I love original Wagons!!!   Anyway....  The interior has some issues from the sun but it's completely functional and the Bucket Seats Swivel as they should.....It's a great running car that sounds good...steers nice and straight and the front Power Disc Brakes stop this 442 on a dime!   The Original Matching Numbers Oldsmobile 260 V8 engine runs great and makes absolutely no unusual noises, no valve taps, no rod knocks, no lifter ticks...absolutely nothing but the smooth sound of the Olds V8 engine running through the Hooker Headers and back to the new exhaust pipes and new mufflers. I would install a new pair of Tailpipes if I were to keep the car as the exhaust ends at the rear axle.  The Front and Rear Body to Bumper Plastic Filler Panels are still in place and in pretty good original condition.  The Bumpers are Original and are nice and straight. The Bumpers are nice for the weekend cruiser and that's exactly how I see this 442, as a weekend Cruiser or local Cruise Night car. Like any 38 year old car that's never been restored, it could use a little work but it's definitely a rare one and the car runs, shifts, steers, stops and drives great!  As I mentioned earlier, absolutely every single exterior Light, Marker and Signal work exactly as they should so you can drive the car anywhere at night without worrying about Light issues... Dash Lights work... all Gauges work!!! The Wheels are the Original 15 x 7" Olds Rallys and appear to be wearing their original Lime Metallic Paint which is a slight shade off from the repaint. The Tires are Brand New BF Goodrich Radial T/A's and they not only give the car an exceptional ride but they look great on the car!  This 442 is an Original "W29" car which is documented by the cars original Broadcast Sheet. I was not looking for the Broadcast Sheet as I had no doubt that it was an Original 442 but when the Carpets were being installed and the Rear Seat was removed, the Broadcast Sheet was sitting right there under the Seat!   How cool is that?   If your looking for a super cool car with an Outstanding Original Color Combination and a super Rare drive-train combination then look no further.  You will not find another like this anytime soon if ever!   I have looked high and low and have been through just about every internet site there is just trying to find a comparable 76 Olds 442 but I was not able to find another.  I couldn't even find another Lime Metallic 442 let alone a 1976 Olds 442 with the 260 V8 and the 5 speed transmission.  I did find a 1977 Olds Cutlass Supreme with the 260 V8 and the 5 Speed Manual Transmission but no 1976 Models with the 260 & 5 speed and no other 1976 442's with a 260 and a 5 speed in any color!     If you want a show car then buy a show car. If you want an Original 1976 442 with a great color combination and the super rare drive-train combination then you might consider this car. Sure it could use some things but it doesn't need anything to be driven. Like all unrestored 38 year old cars, there are always things to be done or areas that can be improved but this 442 is all there... extremely original and well documented.... Matching Numbers engine and Excellent Original 5 Speed Transmission that shifts easily with a great clutch......just a cool old car.  Not by any means a show car or a perfect car but a good original car that could use some freshening in some areas.   I think that most guys will be very happy with this 442 but I wanted to address everyone so I tried to cover as much as I possibly could. This would be a great car to drive and do some little things while you enjoy the car and if your so inclined, you could restore the car in the future.  I've listed this Documented 1976 Olds 442 with NO RESERVE because I wanted you guys to decide what it's worth to you.   The NADA Value on this car is very difficult to figure as there is no mention of the 5 Speed Manual Transmission which would have been an "Add-On Option" on other vehicles just as the 4 Speed Transmission would be a 5-10% addition to many of the Muscle car Values found on the NADA Classic site.   Here is what NADA Classic shows for a 1976 Cutlass Salon Colonnade Coupe with the 442 Package & the 260 V8 engine. I used the Cutlass Salon because the Cutlass S wasn't shown in the NADA price guide. The price is the same if you use the Cutlass Supreme with the 442 Package as a 25% increase in value. This is being shown as a reference only.  If you could add on the Rarity of the 5 Speed and the Amazing Color Combination then I think the prices would be another 20% Higher but that's just an opinion and we all know what they say about opinions!
