This motorcycle has been owned by the same man for the last 30 years.  A tool and die maker by trade he also worked for Harley Davidson for a few years long ago.  He is 87 years old and hasn't ridden this knucklehead in 7 years.  It was always his favorite bike.  The speedometer was rebuilt and set back to 0 at the same time he rebuilt the motor transmission and brakes.  So the mileage on the odometer reflects mileage on the rebuild.  The paint and sheet metal on the machine were in excellent shape 30 years ago so he did nothing to change it.  The bike is painted police silver an option for 1947. Paint job still looks fresh.   All the accessories are as it was when he bought the bike.  They include Flanders handlebars and risers, marker lights front and rear (the fronts have little spotlite lenses) a buddy seat with springs dual exhaust, fender trim and tool box. I believe he added the mud guards saddle bags and sealed beam headlight.  Sadly I'm afraid his best riding years are behind him.  We rode together and have been close friends for years.  I went to his home at his request and he took me out to the garage where layers of blankets covered this old bike. Asked me to sell it for him.  We dusted it off some and put air in the tires.  After bringing it home I installed a new battery and washed out the residue in the gas tanks and carburetor.  I also changed the oil.   After a couple of primer kicks it fired right up!  And it runs perfect.  I took it for a short ride and it was reborn!!  The owner who has had bikes all his life assures me that 1947 was the best of all the knuckleheads.  The bull neck frame, off set front end, and shock absorber combined to make this the best handling big twin they had ever made. He says it was the crowning glory of all the overhead Harleys.  Never been one since that could compare with the 47.  This bike is being offered here on auction but is also for sale locally.  A local sale will end the auction.  The bike is available for viewing in Georgetown, Ca.  My name is Jim and my phone is 530 333 4760 and I am anxious to answer any questions you may have or make an appointment to see the bike. Of course the belly numbers match and I have title in hand.
