THE ITEM IN QUESTION

We are offering for your consideration:

Complete Traditional Catholic
VULGATE ROMAN ANTHIPHONAL
(Antiphonale Romanum 1949-60)

I have only seen 3 copies of this in my lifetime (I sold
the other 2 already) This is the last copy of the
absolutely rarest of the rare Gregorian Chant books.

I picked this copy up in a Gent's garage in Omaha in 1995.

It has never been used. It was previously a library copy.

More bang for your buck and we offer free shipping - go figure !

[see scans for details and examples]

...

This number was printed by Desclee in 1949 and contains
3 important supplements:

(1) The New Propers for the Assumption of the BVM (1950)

(2) Propers for the Queenship of BVM (1956)

(3) Propers for some strange feast called "Joe the Marxist" May 1st (1960)

Well that was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. St. Joseph the Worker
was never popular after Pius XII promulgated it in 1955. So much so
that the boys from St. Peter's Monastery (Solesmes, France) dragged
their feet for a whole 5 years until John XXIII ordered them to produce
the chant propers. Commemorating Communist "May Day" (May 1st)
it is disparagingly referred to by Trad Cats. as "Joe the Marxist".
Anyway not to disappoint you... we include it in this purchase.

Also included in this auction, and by no means as rare, is the Monastic Antiphonal
(Benedictine Propers and Benedictine Chant with the Pre-Urban Hymns).

So from your favorite "antiquarian" another stupendous 2 for 1 deal !

1 pictured cloth bound 1949 Desclee Roman Antiphonal.

Included (though not shown is Desclee's Monastic Antiphonal) in unused condition.

By the way: (you ask) what is an Anthiphonal ?

Glad you asked that: It's the entire Trad. Cat. Divine Office set to Gregorian Chant
with the hour of Mattins excluded - that would take another 1 to 2 hours.

The Boys from Solesmes were working on the Mattins books
until Vatican 2 suspended everything. It was later produced as a private enterprise
in the 200os but carries no official sanction (as far as I am aware).

These books ARE the officially sanctioned editions - and believe me you will NEVER see another
deal like this here again !

Check out the pictures ! Stunning quality and workmanship ! Well worth the price of admission !

Ready to be speedily picked up to be employed once again in your chapel !
