The lacquering is original and is as durable as it is beautiful.
 
Purchased from their boutique at the Bellagio for $1000+ in 2009
& immediately resoled -- the original leather soles are untouched beneath the coordinating hatched rubber.
You can see there is no wear - esp. from the sides and back.

Rubber soles help keep you from slipping and wet surfaces from rotting/softening your shoes.
Resoling is costly but worth it on a shoe you hope to have for years.
