An Atwater Kent tuned radio frequency (TRF) alternating current (AC) table table radio in metal case, with embossed bronze maker's plate with a removable lid; this is Model #40. Introduced in 1928 by Atwater Kent of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The speaker that sits on top of this radio is a separate component, it can be set aside. This is the original and proper AK-40 speaker for this radio, known as the (Type-E speaker) The above info for this radio was copied from a collectible radio website.

This radio has been in my Aunt's upstairs store room for as long as I can remember. I'm 56 years old. I do remember my brother and I plugged it in when we were very young, about 8 years old or so. It did work back in those days. However, now it appears perhaps a mouse or something had chewed through the cloth electrical card, most of the cord and plug are now missing. I have no idea if this radio still operates or not, for that reason, this an AS IS AUCTION. I can not guarantee that it does work. I assume it may still operate if someone were to place a new cord to it and hook the speaker wire back up. The speaker wire does have little metal connectors on the ends of it, I could not see where to connect them, so I did not hook them up. I did clean both the outside and inside of the radio up a bit. It was packed with dust inside and out. It appears to me there are no missing tubes or missing components, appears it is all here except the power cord. Overall it looks in very good condition considering it's 75 years old. Even if it doesn't work, it sure looks COOL! Buyer Pays Shipping. I will pack this item extremely well so the new owner will receive it in perfect condition. Happy Bidding!
