Giving new life to automobiles worldwide.

BG Products, Inc. is committed to maintaining the operational systems of today's and tomorrow's vehicles. We manufacture our own products, specialized tools and equipment for application by specially trained automotive professionals. We seek prolonged trouble-free automotive performance for every BG customer. We have dedicated every resource—the skills of our people, our capacity for breakthrough research and our ongoing testing and refinement of current products—to better understand how the ravages of time and use deplete the vital fluid systems of a vehicle.

Complete deposit control lies at the core of our business. Altogether, it means products that bring extended life and efficiency to engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, cooling and climate control systems. As the technical sophistication of these systems evolves, BG and its distributors keep pace, adding still more efficiency, economy, and long-term reliability to today's computerized vehicles.

Product distribution unique to the industry.

BG Products works, as it always has, through a close-knit network of independent distributors, each responsible for the creation of a highly trained sales organization. Each serves an exclusive marketing area in the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, or Asia. These distributors have shared in BG’s commitment to personal and corporate integrity and to product engineering that anticipates a rapidly changing marketplace.

A changing automotive marketplace, an emerging BG response.

Our philosophy of doing business ensures the continued development of products and services attuned to the exact automotive needs of the moment. We take pride in the skill, the imagination, and the integrity of loyal BG employees. We will stay the course. During constant change, we focus exclusively on products of the highest quality only available through BG.

And so we continue on the path of discovery that has defined our first 35 years.  We hold the line against time and distance, giving new life to vehicles worldwide as we continue to look for a better way.

Ethanol Attacks Engines

Most of us know alcohols like ethanol are not good for engines, but “attacks”?

How does ethanol attack engines?

And how can BG defend engines against the harmful effects of ethanol?

How Ethanol Attacks Engines

Ethanol creates hard deposits

If a gas station is switched from conventional gasoline to E10, much of the sediment, oxidation residue and other contaminants in the storage tanks and lines can be dissolved or suspended in the new fuel.  Contaminants can cause premature filter plugging and injector fouling.  In addition to lost mpg and power, deposit formation is also more common in ethanol-containing fuel and can further interrupt the fuel/air ratio causing more severe driveability problems such as inefficient combustion, decreased performance and reduced throttle response.

Ethanol Holds Water

Ethanol-containing fuel can hold a limited amount of water, which is highly temperature-dependent, before the fuel experiences phase separation and a large percentage of ethanol and water settle to the bottom of the vehicle’s gas tank.  Moisture can cause corrosion to the fuel system and erratic engine operation.

Ethanol Is Acidic

Ethanol is a mildly acidic molecule which accelerates the corrosion process in iron-based alloys or aluminum, brass, bronze, silver, lead and other alloys found in most fuel systems.

Ethanol is OK with the EPA

In 2011, the EPA (controversially) approved the use of E15 with required fuel registration and pump labeling. According to the EPA, E15 won’t harm 2001 and newer vehicles because their hoses, gaskets and seals are specially designed to resist the corrosive ethanol.  However, the American Petroleum Institute (API) strongly disagreed citing further testing provided strong evidence the “use of E15 could harm car and truck engines, potentially affecting millions of cars and trucks.” The president of API went on to say, “EPA’s decisions in 2010 and 2011 approving E15 ethanol-gasoline blends for most American vehicles were premature and irresponsible.  EPA approved E15 knowing ongoing vehicle testing had not been completed. Worse, as API noted in its press briefing, it approved the fuel even though government labs had raised red flags about the compatibility of E15 with much of the dispensing and storage infrastructure at our nation’s gas stations.” (bgfor.me/api)

Even several OEMs—including Ford, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Chrysler, Volkswagen—are against the approval of E15 and stated they will not honor warranties on older cars (before 2001) running on E15. They are “concerned about the effects of E15 on engines, fuel pumps and other fuel-system components in cars that were not designed for it.”

EPA approval and OEM threats aside, it is ultimately up to consumers whether they fill their tanks with E15 or stick with the more standard E10 (or even go out of their way to buy “pure gas”). Either way, they’re going to need something to keep their fuel system clean and protected; and BG’s got just the solution!

BG Products Ethanol Fuel System Defender Service Kit

BG Ethanol Fuel System Defender Service contains corrosion inhibitors that coat fuel system components protecting them from corrosive acids.  The fuel system is safe and fuel flow is optimal.  In addition to corrosion protection, this service will neutralize these harmful acids.

BG Ethanol Fuel System Defender Service creates a stable solution with gasoline, allowing more water to pass harmlessly through the fuel system before gasoline and water begin to separate.

This service cleans the intire fuel system and keeps it free of damaging deposits.  Regular use will restore engine performance and gas mileage, lower exhaust emissions and reduce drivability problems caused by deposit buildup.

  • Removes heavy deposits
  • Prevents future deposit buildup
  • Protects fuel system from corrosion
  • Restores power, performance and fuel economy
  • Allows entrained water to pass safely through the fuel system

Add BG Ethanol Fuel System Defender Service at every oil change for maximum protection from engine and fuel system damage... should ethanol attack.

BG Ethanol Fuel System Defender

Part No. 213 11 oz. (325 mL) bottle

BG Ethanol Fuel System Defender is formulated to inhibit the free radical oxidation mechanism, which causes ethanol-containing gasoline to degrade. Add to the fuel tank each oil change to keep intake manifolds, intake ports, intake valves and combustion chambers clean and free of damaging deposits typical caused by ethanol. BG Ethanol Fuel System Defender is an excellent fuel stabilizer! Catalytic converter and oxygen sensor safe.

BG Ethanol Fuel System Drier

Part No. 281 12 oz. (355 mL) bottle

Ethanol-containing gasoline is highly susceptible to water accumulation which can cause corrosion on fuel system components. BG Ethanol Fuel System Drier forms a stable solution with water and gasoline allowing the water in the tank to pass harmlessly through the fuel system, without affecting the combustion process. Catalytic converter and oxygen sensor safe.
