eBay
This auction is for FOUR Spectra Sonics Model 101 amplifier cards. These cards have been reconditioned:  input and output electrolytic coupling capacitors replaced. They have been tested and found to be within original published specifications.

In addition to the amplifier card, you will receive:

4 bifurcated pc-edge connector sockets with gold-plated pins
4 precision low noise gain adjust resistors to set the amplifier gain,
4 Triad A-67J input transformers (as used in all Spectra Sonics equipment),

4  Bauer high-nickel output transformers

A note about the transformers:  The Triad A-67J input transformer gives the classic sonic signature that people like so much. The Bauer output transformer, used here instead of the Triad, provides everything the Triad did, but with better performance and at half the price! This four-channel mini-kit represents our best dollar value offering to date.

One of the things that has dismayed me is the number of these units that have been offered on e-Bay, most in questionable condition, and without the necessary items required to operate them, and often with little or no documentation. This kit comes with extensive documentation, including three-wire wiring diagrams showing exactly how to connect all wires and shields and power supply to the amplifier. Documentation includes:

a copy of the factory specification sheet for this product,
a copy of the 5 page Operating Instructions provided by the factory,
wiring diagrams for the transformers, including optimum termination information,
and a 12 page booklet covering the building of a custom pre-amp with Spectra Sonics 101 amplifiers.

This seller was employed by Spectra Sonics for over four years, and installed many Spectra Sonics systems and Spectra Sonics audio mixing consoles for the factory. Over 40 years experience selling, installing, designing and using these products have given a considerable degree of expertise in their use and operation.

When you purchase this amplifier, you will receive a booklet filled with helpful information about the use and application of this product.  Topics covered include: Preamp Housing, Input and Output Connectors, Audio Transformers ( should I or shouldn't I ), Schematic Wiring Diagram, Gain Adjustment, Power Supply - requirements and how to build your own, Power Transformer, and Schematics for input padding and a ultra low-noise, discrete regulated power supply circuit.

In addition, when you purchase these cards, you will receive free e-mail support and advice to help you achieve the satisfactory performance from these products. We have helped dozens of people create their own mic preamps with Spectra Sonics. You can do it too, as long as you know which end of the soldering iron to pick up first.

The performance of Spectra Sonics amplifiers is well known, even legendary. They are however a bit more difficult to use than the standard off-the-shelf conventional audio product. They will provide exceptional sound:  rich, full bass, and sparkling highs,  incredible clarity and the lowest noise floor of any product made ... ideal when using low output ribbon microphones, or using microphones at some distance while recording large ensembles.

Some performance notes:  these amplifiers may have gain determined by the value of one external gain adjustment resistor. They may be used at 35 to 55 dB of gain by the selection of the appropriate external resistor. This makes it useable with nearly any contemporary microphone into any line level input. Input transformers are highly recommended, as are output transformers. Notes about transformers are included in the supplemental information provided with the documentation. A 24 volt regulated power supply is required and notes about that are also included in the supplemental documentation.

Additional Spectra Sonics amplifier cards, equalizers, components, transformers, power supply components are available from the seller.
