For your consideration is a lovely 100% linen 18th century jacket in a stunning goldenrod color.  It is fully lined with ivory linen.  It is absolutely ideal for working class impressions!  This jacket is 100% hand sewn and the pattern is copied directly from a scaled diagram of an original extant garment.  There are a number of similarly cut jackets in museum collections around the world, so this is a very well-documented style.  There are no closures on this jacket; it is meant to pin closed down the center front.  This would be appropriate for 1770-1785 events, for Revolutionary War reenacting, DAR, or as a historically accurate colonial period costume.

PLEASE NOTE that the petticoat, kerchief, hat, and other accessories shown in some of the photos are NOT included.  This listing is for the JACKET ONLY.  You will need to provide your own petticoat and accessories (or I'd be happy to make them up custom for you if you wish - just inquire for details when you win the auction!).

This jacket is ENTIRELY 100% hand sewn and constructed using period techniques and stitches.  As such, it displays all the characteristics of an original, extant garment.  The seams are carefully top-stitched and the sleeves set in while on the body.  The raw edges of the armscye have not been trimmed inside, but have been sewn and then left to hang free inside the bodice, as was done in the period.  Keep in mind, then, that the "finishes" on this jacket are appropriate to the 18th century, but may not be what you'd typically expect from a 21st-century "costume."

Please be aware that this jacket MUST be worn over proper period undergarments (stays) in order to fit as it should.  Sizing is a bit adjustable, as 18th-century garments were, because the front pins closed and can be overlapped a couple of inches.  Sizing details are as follows:

  • bust:  31.75" max
  • shoulder to waist: 15.25"
  • bicep: 13.25"
  • waist: 27 " max
  • shoulder to elbow: 14.5"

PLEASE READ CONDITION NOTES CAREFULLY BEFORE BIDDING, AS I CANNOT ACCEPT RETURNS ON THIS ITEM.  THIS JACKET IS BEING SOLD AS-IS.

  • Please note that this jacket is pre-owned and thus show some signs of wear.  There is some wear along the edges, where the fabric has "puckered" ever so slightly because the jacket has been washed multiple times, but really it is hardly noticeable, especially when the hemline is carefully pressed.
  • The interior ivory lining has taken on a slight yellowish-gold hue because the gold color of the linen bled through when the jacket was washed.  I only mention this in the interest of full disclosure, since it isn't visible from the outside and doesn't affect the integrity of the jacket at all.
