Moisture is present in the air not only when it is wet & rainy, but also when it is hot & humid. Mould & mildew thrive in moist environments, not to mention the damaging effects of rust & rot when moisture is present. Moisture can also play havoc with electronic equipment such as cameras, video cameras, & other electronics.

To prevent moisture damage to your valuable items when in storage, or everyday use, a good quality desiccant/moisture absorber is essential.

Advantages of Unisorb Mineral Desiccant

Silica Gel is a very good desiccant. However it has one serious drawback! Silica Gel desiccant can only absorb a maximum of 40% of its weight in moisture under ideal conditions before it reaches maximum holding capacity & stops protecting your goods against the damaging effects of moisture.

Unisorb has developed a new, mineral, clay-based desiccant that has most of the properties of Silica Gel, with one significant advantage. Unisorb Clay based desiccant can hold up to 100% of its weight in moisture, a 250% increase on the moisture-holding capacity of Silica Gel-based desiccant.

A single 100gram pack of Unisorb Clay based desiccant has the same moisture holding capacity as a 250gram pack of Silica Gel! This means your valuable items can be protected from moisture, mould, mildew & rust for 2.5 times longer than a regular 100 gram pack of Silica Gel desiccant.

Unisorb Desiccant in Tyvek Sachets are ideal to protect clothing, shoes, handbags, leather goods, cosmetics, electronic appliances, documents, photographs, tools & other valuables from the damaging effects of moisture, mould, mildew & rust.

Suggested Use

  • Place sachets with your valuable documents, stamp collections & photographs.
  • Place sachets with your tools to keep them free of rust.
  • Place sachets with your cameras to keep them free of moisture.
  • Place sachets in your wardrobes to keep clothing & leather goods dry.
  • Place Food Grade Silica Gel sachets with dry packaged food, vitamins or pharmaceuticals.
  • Place sachets in your laundry basket with your clothes to prevent mildew.
  • Essential for preventing mould on leather.
  • Use for drying flowers, in gun safes, the uses are endless!

Sachets work best if they are in a sealed container or sealed plastic bag with the item or items to be protected.

How to Reuse/Regenerate The Sachets

As with our Silica Gel sachets, Unisorb mineral/clay-based desiccant can be regenerated before it reaches maximum moisture holding capacity for reuse. You should regenerate the sachets when the moisture content by weight of the sachet is 50% or more by weight above the starting weight of the sachet. For 100gm sachets, this wil be when the sachet weighs 150gm or more.

To regenerate the sachet, place on a tray in the oven at a temperature setting of approx 80-100deg Celsius for several hours. Do not heat at temperatures above 100 deg C, as you may melt or damage the Tyvek sachet containing the desiccant. The sachets will be fully regenerated when they are back to approx 100 - 110gm each in weight.

The sachets may also be left out to dry in the hot sun. Place outside in a single layer on a tray in full sun. Note that this method works best only if the humidity (moisture in the air) is very low (below 50%).

What is Unisorb Clay Desiccant

Montmorillonite clay is a naturally occurring adsorbent created by the controlled drying of magnesium aluminium silicate of the sub-bentonite type. This clay will successfully regenerate for repeated use at very low temperatures without substantial deterioration or swelling.

Clay is a highly effective desiccant within normal temperature (<50 ceg C) and relative humidity ranges. Its appearance is that of small grey pellets.
