Binaural microphones come in pairs. When placed near each ear they record exactly what your ears hear. Reproducing exactly what you heard at the time of the recording. The effect is amazing, recordings of a live band performance for example produces the exact sound. The positions of the performers, the reverberation and echo of the room, and the audience reaction are all captured precisely. Binaural recordings provide the most realistic recordings you'll ever hear.
When concerts and lectures recorded using these microphones are played back on quality headphones the fidelity is amazing. The ambience is preserved faithfully and location of instruments, singers and audience is extremely precise. The response is clean and fast, typical of electret condenser microphones, they provide very solid bass and crystal line treble.
These microphones are very small and discreet, almost weightless (<1g) and are available in many disguise’s such as tie clips, headphones, earphones, glasses and pen’s are just a choice few. The binaural microphone cartridges as standard are mounted inside the left and right earpiece.
Quality condenser capsules (Panasonic) have been mounted in 'in-ear' headphone's so the mic capsules are as close as possible to the ear canal. This means the sound is captured inside the earlobe which results in a better spacial quality to the sound recorded. These microphones require 'plug-in power' provided by the mic input. These do not work with a 'line input' socket.
The microphone sets are based on a pair of miniature Omni-directional electret condenser cartridges. They are configured to provide a more linear sound and to eliminate mechanical resonances in their bass response. These modifications add more than 20dB to the microphones dynamic range, without flat sound or distortion.
The microphones are paired and matched within 1dB of each other. Sensitivity of the microphone cartridges is approximately -45 dB. The microphones are nominally Omni-directional but their pickup pattern may vary by the absorption and reflection characteristics of your head, outer ears, clothing and position. Their noise level is typical of electret condensor microphones, approximately 30 dBA. This is comfortably below the noise level of the Sony DAT and MD recorders' microphone pre-amplifiers and the ambient noise level at concerts. They provide the highest sound quality and very low distortion operation at the high sound pressure levels typical of rock concerts and motor racing (from 110 db to 140 dB SPL).
Also available is a STEREO MICROPHONE BATTERY PHANTOM POWER MODULE containing a battery & associated electronics allowing much improved linearity (less distortion) and expanded dynamic range. The module simply provides the correct voltage to power the microphones and also houses an optional bass roll-off filter. This is £14.99 without bass roll-off filter and £24.99 with bass roll off filter. This can be added to your purchase if required or bought seperately from our website. Most devices provide plug in power so the battery box is not always necessary. Please check your device provides plug in power at the microphone socket before considering the battery box module. The module is small and sturdy & it's output is terminated to a gold plated 3.5mm stereo jack plug.
