Measure your door width and add another 3' to 6' per side for overlap as well as for the best cosmetic appearances. This will give you the overall width of the door canopy. Please note that you will need at least 13" above the door for mounting also determine if the door swings in or swings out.

Make sure you determine whether your door swings in or swings out. Then measure it's width making sure that if your door swings out the projection is greater than the door width to avoid having the door hit the canopy when opened.
