For sale is a rare first issue of the original parts of Bleak House, by Charles Dickens. Published by Bradbury and Evans, London, 1853. 624p.p. A complete suite of 40 plates by H.K. Browne, including the ten scarce 'dark plates'. All of Smith's first issue points here present. Halftitle present.

Bound in contemporary fine black calf over marbled boards. The spine decorated with raised bands and incised panels - heavily tooled in gilt. A olive green and gilt title label. Original powder blue endpapers. An ornate armorial bookplate for 'Thomas Williams' to the front pastedown.

The binding is sound and the spine firm. A closed split to the upper-RH hinge, but this has been professionally repaired. Internally the plates are toned to the margins. The textblock remains largely clean.

Overall, this is a charming and impressive volume, particularly rare in the first issue of the original parts and bound in a handsome period binding.
