eBay
Wonderful original vintage 1950s homemade cotton shirtwaister day dress with a striking novelty print of what looks like photos of flowers! Fitted bodice has gathering detail around the waistline; short, cuffed, puff sleeves and a perky collar pointed at the centre back. The flared skirt is very full and has hidden hip pockets. Centre front self-fabric-covered button fastening and matching belt. When I purchased this dress a few years ago I was told it was homemade for a hairdresser named Cissy by her mother.

Measurements

Bust 42"
Waist 26"
Centre Back Bodice Length 18 1/4"
Skirt Length 30"
Hem just under 2 1/2"
Cuff Width 5"

I would say this would fit a UK size 8 best (or even up to a wasp-waisted 12 because of the generous bust area). I also believe this dress would suit a taller lady (note the bodice length). It looks very odd on my petite sized dummy, I'm sorry!

PLEASE make sure you know your own measurements, and go by those instead of my size guide! I've noticed here on the eBay vintage pages that there seems to be a vastly differing opinion with sizes!!!! And this is just my guesstimate.

Condition

In fair, flawed, but wearable condition. I believe it was the original owner's favourite dress - it appears to be well loved! BUT it still has lots of wear left! The print has gently and evenly faded. There are a few tiny rust-like dot marks on the right shoulder; and there are one or two other small pale marks. The fabric on the belt and buckle is a little discoloured and slighty worn. The buttons are a little loose, and the fabric covering them shows a little wear. There is a small repaired tear to the left sleeve above the cuff opening, and a slight fray to the same place on the right sleeve.

I do not accept returns. Please make sure you have read the description carefully, especially the condition and measurements part (and please make sure you know you own personal measurements), so you know what you are getting, and if you need to know anything else please ask.

Please take a look at my other vintage auctions, all starting at 99p. Postage gladly combined. Depending on the weight, I could probably send 2 dresses for £5 within the UK.

YES, I will consider BUY IT NOW prices! Just send me an email with the items you're interested in, and how much you were thinking of, and I'll consider it! But please don't be offended if I say no, or counter offer :)

I do not send out anything without a tracking number, this makes overseas postage quite expensive, I'm sorry. Overseas buyers, I will combine postage, but I need to know which dresses you're interested in and your location before I can give you a shipping quote for more than one item.

I sometimes use petticoats to show the fullness of skirts, and these are not included in the sale.

I do not accept returns. Please make sure you have read the description carefully, especially the condition and measurements part (and please make sure you know you own personal measurements), so you know what you are getting, and if you need to know anything else please ask.

If you do happen to be unhappy when you receive something, please contact me before leaving feedback and let's try to resolve the problem amicably between ourselves without resorting to damaging feedback.

Within the UK I can accept payments by PayPal, cheque, or postal order.

Buyers from outside the UK, I can only accept PayPal.

Buyers outside of Europe, please do be aware of your own country's tax/custom rules, and know that these are not included in the price you pay me, and may possibly have to be paid before delivery of your item.

About me....

My name is Tessa, I'm 32, and I've been wearing and collecting vintage clothing for well over a decade. I started wearing 1960s and 70s stuff, but very some came to realise that I favoured the 'New Look' silhouette of the late 1940s, into the 1950s. I believe this style suits my odd (by odd, I mean does not conform to modern day standards) figure better too - I have soooo much trouble buying modern clothing!
I have a huge collection dresses and skirts from late 1940s into the early 60s, in fact I have a whole room dedicated to my collection! I mainly concentrate on 1950s novelty printed cotton dresses and skirts, and Horrockses Fashions dresses - of which I may have one of the largest collections at 122.
You'll notice that this is also mainly what I sell (apart from the Horrockses, which I very rarely let go of). If you're anything like me your vintage collection is constantly evolving and changing; you have some things you know you'll keep forever, some you keep for 6 months or year and get bored of them, or just decide they're not right for you afterall, or some you realise instantly after trying on that they're not right for you despite how much you love them! So the vast majority of items I sell have been bought for myself originally, but I've decided aren't right for me for one reason or another. And there's usually a large range of sizes because I'm a bit of a yoyo dieter! In the last 18 months, this is terrible to admit, but I've been every waist size between 23 and 31 inches! Yikes!
I also have an Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/RainbowValleyVintage
It's quite sad to say it, but vintage is pretty much my life - I live and breathe it, and am constantly surrounded by it!
