SELLER REMARKS

Heavy cruisers like this 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J offer a fantastic combination of muscle and luxury in a way that just hasn't been duplicated since. With a slick two-tone paint job and a GTO-grade 400 cubic inch V8, this is a lot more than just a racy-looking luxury car.

Granted, the two-tone finish isn't the way the factory built it, but that sharply creased and pointed bodywork just screams for a custom paint job. The colors are Root Beer over the original Coronado Gold, all separated by a bright red pinstripe that adds a little contrast. The result is an awesome-looking Poncho that will stand out in a crowd and looks like it should cost thousands more than it does. The workmanship is good with a shiny finish and nice attention to detail to make it stand up to scrutiny at your local cruise nights. The hood looks about a mile long from behind the wheel, and the wide C-pillars only exaggerate the long hood/short deck profile. Those wide doors fit rather well and as a luxury car, there is plenty of chrome that's in great shape. The traditional Pontiac split grille leads the way and you'll note that a few piece of trim were deleted during the repaint, giving it a very clean, sleek look that it'll take an expert to spot.

The all-original interior has a classic 1970s look that's exactly right in the flashy Grand Prix. Parchment bucket seats and a center console make it feel as sporty as a GTO inside and the wrap-around dashboard with three prominent gauge nacelles continues a Pontiac tradition dating back to the early '60s. The seat covers are in very good shape for being 44 years old, showing only minor wear and signs of age, with a back seat that looks almost new. Nice carpets may have been replaced at some point, but they don't jump out at you as being too nice and the whole interior has a very authentic vibe going on. Factory A/C is on the options list, and it has been converted to R134a refrigerant and just needs a recharge. Other details like the dash pad and steering wheel are in good shape and the trunk is positively massive, reminding us that even personal luxury coupes were full-sized machines back in the '70s.

The 400 cubic inch V8 was similar to the one found in the GTO and makes a stout 350 horsepower and enough torque to move this big coupe with effortless ease. The engine bay is actually quite nicely finished with a correct air cleaner, Pontiac Turquoise paint on the engine itself, and plenty of evidence of care and maintenance over the years. A power brake booster and master cylinder have been recently installed and there are a pair of new mufflers underneath to give it a suitably baritone soundtrack. A TH400 3-speed automatic ensures that the heavy coupe doesn't miss any gears and the highway-friendly gears out back mean that this is a fantastic choice for a road trip. It's original but clean underneath and while the suspension is luxury car supple, it doesn't seem to mind hustling when the occasion arises. Factory Rally II wheels have been custom-painted with the same Root Beer paint and carry fat Uniroyal radials at all four corners.

A very neat car from a time when comfort and performance happily lived in harmony. After all, horsepower was the ultimate luxury. Call today!
