Apple's famous (or infamous) "Helocar" promotional VHS video for its Desktop Media campaign. Copyrighted as 1989, which I believe is the year it was issued.

This is a kit that I requested personally, and it was only played once. As far as I know, the tape will still play fine, but I no longer have a VHS player. Play it at your own risk, but you can find it online, I am sure. Instead, enjoy this delightful promotional kit for what it is: a unique piece of Apple's early Mac history. It will look great on your workstation.

This kit was notorious for confusing many customers. People were not sure what Apple was trying to sell. The "Helocar" used as a theme was thought to be an actual product that Apple or some partner was introducing. Wait, a real flying car? Stop the presses! When can we touch it?

The actual intent was to promote the use of the Mac and various applications in what is now called "desktop publishing". The concept of being able to use multiple applications to seamlessly work up a media package for a new product or service was novel back then.

This is especially ironic today when Apple is rumored to be working on its own vehicle. But who knows? Maybe they will reveal a flying car that looks just like the Helocar!
