Stunning Quart "TRAVELERS / COMPANION" A Crude1860s Flask

Here’s just a beautiful Civil War era quart size liquor flask with exceptional crudity & character. Embossing on one side reads: “TRAVELER’S / COMPANION” with an eight point sunburst in the center. Reverse has an embossed “Stalk-of-Wheat” with a “pitchfork” and “rake” below that. Hand blown into a two part mould in a deep golden amber colored glass, circa 1860s.

Likely blown by the “Westford Glass Works” in New Jersey. It has an applied tapered top and a hinge mold, smooth base. The strikes on these are often not that great but it’s completely readable. This is a really nice crude example with excellent glass character. HAMMER whittled, tons of seed bubbles, and a crude applied top make this one a solid example. Just a gorgeous piece of crude early bottle glass at it’s finest..........
