RACE TRACK GAME

 

The Capacitance Electronic Disc (CED) is an analog video disc playback system developed by RCA, in which video and audio could be played back on a TV set using a special needle and high-density groove system similar to phonograph records. RCA began videodisc research in 1964, in an attempt to produce a phonograph-like method of reproducing video.
 
CED videodiscs were originally meant to be handled by hand, but during testing, it was shown that people were likely to accidentally touch the signal surface of the disc, causing signal degradation at the touched area. Thus, an idea was developed in which the disc would be stored and handled in a caddy from which the CED would be extracted by the player.
The format was commonly known as "videodisc", leading to much confusion with the contemporary LaserDisc format. LaserDiscs were read optically with a laser beam, whereas CED videodiscs were read physically with a stylus, rather like a conventional gramophone record. The two systems were mutually incompatible.

Willie Shoemaker was host for the interactive RCA VideoDisc title "A Week at the Races" in 1983. It was the very first of RCA's "Interactive" game sets that were designed to work on RCA's new disc players with "Programmable Capabilities". Something that was considered above and beyond current TV based entertainment. It was quoted as being "One of the very first TV Video Games"!!

This auction is for a truly hard to find 1983 RCA Interactive TV Video Game. This is a day at the races, where you are in the grandstands. You get to play the "Horse Racing" game and each race is different, with different winners each day. That is something totally new for that time.
 
This interactive videodisc is manufactured for disc players which provide Random Access control features.
 
Condition: Very Good!! The box shows minimal wear. The disc appears to be in good condition, the back label has some kind of "ripple", see pic. The playing pieces, money etc. are still sealed in original package.

It was part of an inventory purchased at a liquidation sale of a video store. These movies were among a number of other similar VHS and CD movies and items found in a box, looked like in decent shape. I can't test it. So, I am selling it "AS IS" NO RETURNS NO REFUNDS, and pricing it accordingly. I CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF THESE ARE INCOMPATIBLE WITH YOUR EQUIPMENT.
 
So far, I have sold quite a bit of items from that lot and have had no complaints yet!! Check my feedbacks on this VINTAGE COMPUTER stuff!!
