Policeman puppet made by Quisto. A very early example of a Policeman puppet, carved in wood,
with glass eyes. Arthur Quisto lived from 1882 to 1960. His real name was
Edwin Simms. He was known primarily for his Punch & Judy Shows, but Quisto
also built ventriloquist dummies for the likes Tom Coram and Arthur Prince. He
used pneumatic devices and was the first to use electromagnetic devices to
animate his figures. His work rarely comes up for sale at auction, examples can
be seen in the V&A Museum. http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O1247238/puppet-arthur-quisto/ The puppet is nearly 100 years old, and is showing its age
with damage to the paint work and costume. Would make a great display either for a puppet or doll
collector, or for interior design, but it would be great to see him fully
restored, as he’s performance worthy and would look great. Free postage in UK. Posted with eBay Mobile |
