"A long time ago in the Siberia far far away.."

AFAIK, in the 80s of the last century at the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok scientists needed more processing power - for the calculation of the processes occurring in nuclear reactions.

Only for scientific purposes, of course.

Supercomputers like "Cray-1" in the Soviet Union do not seem to have been, to buy from "potential enemy" is impossible, even through other countries - for reasons of secrecy.

They found an original solution - the world's first "cluster" is created - a network of distributed computing on large (what exactly - is still not declassified) the number of low-power computers individually.

Out of the same secrecy considerations - used this IMHO quasi-"consumer electronics" "BK-0010."

THIS IS NOT Electronics "BK-0010-01", which are really "consumer" and "home" microcomputer.

One of visible difference - the keyboard, at home it really keyboards, these - touch-sensitive. In fact, it is generally not needed in this case - if there is a part of cluster.

How many of them were involved, how they are connected, what software is and especially what the calculations were carried out - TOP SECRET until now. Only production serial number - 5045 - may inspire some ideas with some margin.

(My brother said that at about the same time (then we was still a child) accidentally overheard the "kitchen talks" of our parents' friends. And one of them said that thanks to their development - "supercomputer of thousands of calculators", President Reagan had to close his SDI  (Strategic Defense Initiative) program, also known as "Star Wars".)

As some of the "blocks" are sometimes out of order, it was created by some margin - for rapid replacement.

And just recently (after 30 years) this storage was opened.

ONLY ONE of these "spare blocks" were saved from recycling. ALL OTHER WAS DESTROYED.
