This is a Poinsettia-Mountain Mist quilt from Frederick, Maryland made circa 1920/30s.  The Poinsetta-Mountain Mist was a classic medallion pattern during this time period. The quilt is hand appliqued and hand quilted.   The quilt has 16 large poinsettia flowers.  Each flower has 11 petals and a center that is hand appliqued. The center of the quilt has 4 poinsettia flowers connected by an oval vine that forms a poinsettia wreath medallion.  In the middle of the wreath medallion is a quilted fiddle fern. The fiddle fern center of the quilt is symbolic of the beginning.   Surrounding the poinsettia wreath is a huge quilted wreath of leaves. In each corner of the quilt is an elongated poinsettia flower and pot.  In the center of each side are double poinsettia flowers and pot.  All of the potted poinsettia flowers form a large poinsetta wreath.   The remainder of the quilt has 1 inch square checked quilting that leaves no space not quilted.  The quilt was made by an experienced quilter with exceptional sewing and quilting skills.  The quilt has very small stitches and the squared checked quilting is very even.  This quilt is immaculate which is very rare for a quilt of this age.  There are no stains or damage to the front of the quilt, however on the reverse side of the quilt there are age folding line marks.  See photo above..  This was a treasured and loved quilt and possible a celebration quilt of Christmas and given as a gift.  It was so lovingly taken care of.  The quilt has been hand laundered by a professional without the use of chemicals and is ready to be put upon the bed. The muslin on the quilt is very bright white and the colors on the quilt are vibrant. The quilt measures 79 inches wide and 92 inches in length.
